Hello -

I am a 43 year old working mom diagnosed with DCIS w/ a micro metastasis in one sentinel node, Feb. of 2015. I have had a lumpectomy, finished 16 rounds of chemo, and 21 days of radiation. I have a full head of hair! I'll start taking Tamoxifen soon. I already have severe hot flashes from the chemo that makes me so uncomfortable sleeping at night. I've tried taking Peridin C along with vitamin E & B6, but to no avail and less money in my pocket.

Does anyone have their experience to share with hot flashes and the use of Tamoxifen over a long period of time? Does it get better or worse? I'm also very active where I like to workout a lot; swimming, bike, yoga does anyone have a very active lifestyle while using Tamoxifen? And if so, do you feel it effects your performance? I find exercising doesn't help the hot flashes stop at all. I have hot flashes during a workout and I sweat profusely. Any other side effects to mention or no side effects for anyone?

My Oncologist said I'll most likely be taking Tamoxifen for 10 years!

Thanks everyone!

Hi there :-) I've been on it for 10 months now. I initially thought I had next to no SE's but I've started having a lot of tailbone pain. Apparently this is a common SE. My doctor said they call it "tamo tail" and some women end up sitting on a donut cushion. I will be on this drug for 10 years. My hot flashes aren't too bad and so far only a few at night.

I had some hot flashes, but I am diabetic and it seems they were just low blood sugar problems from not balancing my carbs. lots of aches and pains, but then I am old. fatigue? yes, is it the congestive heart failure, sleep apnea, age, ar meds? I don't know. doctors wont tell me. the tamox seems to be working, my bone scans are getting better.
