Vacuum Biopsy

I had an MRI guided biopsy, and the doctor used a vacuum device. The "enhanced lession" was measured at 0.6cm. The doctor left a clip in place after the biopsy. Does this mean they took the whole area out with the vacuum? Is that why they left the clip? They were unable to see the mass under ultrasound. That's why I had the MRI.

No, they leave the clip to either identify on future imaging that the area has already been biopsied, or to locate the area should the biopsy results necessitate an excision of the area. It is possible that sometimes the entire lesion is removed with the core biopsy, but the clip has nothing to do with that

hi there I had this as part of my treatment the clips are tiny markers for any follow up checks tests or surgery so they can easily get to the spot previously investigated. I was told they are totally harmless titanium material. The vacuum will have taken tissue to biopsy I believe they use the vacuum when the areas they are trying to get a test on are small so suction is easier than the biopsy tool they normally use.

Hopefully all will go well for you xx
