question about bone mets pain
I am wondering what type of pain bone mets cause. I've been having pain that has been waking me at night, over the past aprox 1 and a half months, I have periodic nights that it doesn't, more nights than not I am woke with the pain, it is always the same area left side somewhere between the spine and upper hip area, no matter my position it usually does not go away, some days the pain is worse and sometimes it lasts through the morning like today, I think it has a nerve pain kind of feeling. I have tried pillows between my knees when I sleep on my side and under my knees when I sleep on my back the first night that way I had no pain then the next night I had the pain again. I know There can be other causes for the pain but since I have had breast cancer the thought of bone mets is on my mind. I have messages my primary care doctor about this, I am no longer under the care if my oncologist.
I am really grateful for all the great help and information I receive from evreyone here. I hope everyone has a positive and uplifting day.

Suggest contacting your PCP or MO. Could be lots of things besides mets.

Definitely report it to a doc to get some imaging to determine the cause of the pain. Hopefully something benign. Keep us posted

Hi Marlene, I agree with the others, you have had the same pain for 6 weeks, time to get it checked out. As well as bone mets, I also have arthritis in some areas and the pain can be similar. Best wishes, please keep us updated.

Hi, Marlene. I agree that a pain that hasn't gone away in several weeks needs to be checked out, however many of us with bone mets describe our discomfort as achy or burning pain, especially when we overdo activity. From the area you're describing, I'm wondering if you might have a kidney stone brewing? In addition to a PET scan, which would be the most comprehensive look, some blood work might also be helpful to see if anything is out of range.
Hope you get it figured out and get some pain relief soon. In the meantime, I would try drinking more water, to avoid dehydration, in case it is kidney related.

Thank you to everyone for your replies It's comforting to me. I have messaged my PCP about this, I was diagnosed this past summer with lupus and mentioned it to my Rheumatologist wondering if it could be from that, he told me to see my PCP about it, I had a bone scan on 9/30/2014 and It says on the report mild focal increasd activity at right to posterior L4 possibly associated with a facet joint. No convincing evidence for skeletal metastases. Probable mild degenerative activity in right caudal lumbar spine. I would like to know what's causing the pain so it can be addressed. Thank you Freya for the thought of arthritis and dib823 for the thought about the kidney stone and suggestion to have a pet scan also thank you spooklesmom and kbeee for you helpful suggestions. It's a blessing to have all of your help and support, I hope everyone has a really uplifting and safe weekend.
