First, I must thank you for this site. Although it is my first time writing, I have used the site often and it is a great support system. I was diagnosed with TNBC stage 2, grade 1 invasive ductal carcinoma 2.7 cm in mid-November at a location near my home. I opted for a second opinion at the Siteman Cancer Center. Because of a low ki-67 10%, my team wanted further tests to confirm that i am really TN. Based on results of these tests, another mass was found and later determined to be B9. I had a lumpectomy, papilloma excision and a Sentinal Lympt node biopsy on 1/12/2016. The tumors were removed with clear margins. three lympt nodes were examined. two were clear, the third had a metastatic deposit of 5mm. The biomarkers results were Estrogen receptor-positive, Progesterone receptor-negative and the Her-2-Negative. My grade was upgraded to 3, stage 2.

I am starting chemo on 2/8/2017. Taxotere and Cytoxan, once every three weeks for 12 weeks with radiation to follow five weeks after chemo finished. (I am meeting with the Radiation Oncologist tomorrow to learn more about the radiation). My Chemo Oncologist said I will be on a hormone pill for five years (don't have the name yet). Because only four chemo treatments required and because I have good veins, I have opted to not have the port installed. I hope this isn't a poor decision on my part although I was told could be put in later if I want.

I have reviewed the excellent check lists for various items that will help me, again thank you. Has anyone had these two Chemo drugs, and if so, your experience with them. Also, has anyone had them given without the port. I am nervous but anxious to move forward with my treatment. By the way, i am a very young at heart 73 year old who has experienced only good health my entire life so this was a jolt.

    Hi, codygirl:

I will give you my 2 cents .... although we don't have the same diagnosis (I'm TNBC), I did have Cytoxan along with Adrimaycin and Taxol. 4 treatments of AC followed by 12 rounds of Taxol. I'm currently undergoing radiation ... on treatment 8 of 20). My girlfriend did not have her chemo administered with a port for the same reason as you ... she only had a few. I wish I could have, but they wouldn't even think of it with me having so many treatments. I would say the port is one of the worst parts of this whole thing. I hate it. I can't wait to get it out in a couple of weeks. With all of the anti-nausea meds, I never got sick. I did, of course, lose my hair, got a little neuropathy with the Taxol and a little discoloration of my nails. I took L-Lysine to counteract mouth sores all along and never got any. All in all, I feel like I handled everything fairly well except for fatigue.

    Good Luck to you!

Thank you for your reply . I am nervous about not putting in the port but I believe it is the right decision. i appreciate the information about the Lysine to counteract mouth sores and using it as a preventive measure. I will certainly do that. I hope and pray that everything goes well with getting your port taken out and your continued treatment goes well.

    Good luck to you!!
