TNBC and IBC - Anyone else out there?!
Hello!
My mom was just told she has IBC (inflammatory breast cancer). She already knew she had the triple negative. Is there anyone out there with this mixture that can give some advice or have any knowledge about this?!

There are several of us here, I am sure others will chime in. I just finished carbo/taxol and will start the next chemo next week (AC or FEC, my MO still deciding which to use). I found the carbo/taxol manageable. The side effects did get worse cumulatively, as they said it would, but I didn't have any really awful ones.

Meadow!!! What a relief to know that my mom isn't alone! We are terrified of what inflammatory and triple negative means for the future!
Notdoneyet! Thank you! And that is good! I guess I am more concerned about what is coming. What have the doctors said to you? The outlook? The treatment? I know my mom has nodes in her neck with cancer that may have to have a certain type of radiation to cure them.
Just a lot of new information to try to gather up!

TD, I also had nodes around my neck and down my leg, But the fantastic chemotherapy knock it out 100%. IBC is more basal cell like in structure, and and there have been great strides forward in what chemotherapy is effective. And TNBC also responds very well to chemo. So that is why we are given it first, then surgery, and finally rads to clean up any stray cells. Have your mom focus on her cancer being eliminated by her chemo...her body will respond. Years ago IBC was a pretty much an early death sentence...no longer! Thanks to research and the brave fighters before us they can give us all our lives back!

I may be late to this thread, but I'm here. TBNC and Inflammatory. I'm on number. I have 5 treatments down, 3 to go, then surgery and radiation.
Thanks to these ladies, I have hope. They all told me. STAY OFF GOOGLE. Most of the statistics on the internet are several years old.

Me too. You'll see from my dx and treatments below I am now finished with treatment, after being dx in November 2013.
I think I read that Inflammatory is quite often triple negative. MD Anderson (https://www.mdanderson.org) are the experts in Inflammatory Breast Cancer, and I might have read this on their site. Here is a link to their page about IBC (https://www.mdanderson.org/cancer-types/inflammatory-breast-cancer.html) Breastcancer.org is also a wonderful site both in the information pages and the forums.
I now don't dwell on the fact that a lot of people fear this diagnosis and that the stats can often look dire. This type of breast cancer can be very hard to diagnose. As Meadow mentioned, TNBC usually responds very well to chemo. I now remind myself I continue to stay well and am happy to be over the worst.
Best of luck for your Mum, TerrifiedDaughter and Best of luck too Valstim52. I wish you all comfortable and successful treatments. This time will pass.

Me too. Just finished chemo and am,scheduled for surgery Aug 4. Both breasts and ovaries and tubes. So far side effects have been extreme fatigue, extreme thirst, mild neuropathy in left foot, shingles, and loss of appetite. There were others that required medications, or were ongoing minor stuff. All of which are leaving or expected to leave in time.
I am BRCA2 + as well.

hello! Im Tnbc and about 1.5 yrs post treatment. I didnt even know about ibc until a couple days ago...i had a preadjuct chemo followed by lumpectomy and radiation. For quite a while the radiation made my treated breast rather nice and firm! I have small, very dense breasts anyways, and luckily there had only been a small difference in size after treatment. I go braless alot, thats how small they are. Anyways, 2 days ago i was looking in the mirror and noticed my untreated breast had grown almost over night and is now abou 2 cup sizes larger then the treated breast! Im posative its not just that the treated breast shrunk since there is this jigglyness ive never expiernced before. Like i can feel a bounce when i walk (something i would have once loved to have in both breasts!). So that got me googling and i found out about IBC. I know it is very rare, but im worried i could have a reccurence in my othet breast (or would it be a metastasis?) in the form of IBC...does that happen? Can TNBC become IBC? I read that that the 2 types are similar....am i just being paranoid and im just gaining weight? I see one of my docs on thurs...should i push for tests or anything?thanks for the help!

Tressy, everyone is different, and I am hoping for you it is something else. For me, I had the same thing...increase in size, some itching too. Ask for a diagnostic ultrasound, as IBC shows up better this way than Mammograms. Let us know what you find out. Hugs to you

Hi Ladies, I see some familiar names and faces on this thread. I was a big part of it about a year and a half ago. For those of you who remember "Terrified Daughter" God called my strong mother home in January.
I just wanted to THANK all of you for providing this thread and being so helpful. You all helped make my mother's journey worthwhile and I want to tell you all to keep the faith as well.
We can only BELIEVE.
God Bless
