Very Weak ER+

I'm pretty new here and have a question/concern. I'm ER+, PR- HER2-. My ER is only 3% so a very weak positive. My MO told me that he considers anything over 1% positive so he wants me to go on hormone therapy after chemo and before radiation starts 4/18/17. I'm still going thru chemo, 6 more weeks of Taxol to go. Reading some of the side effects of tamoxifen, I'm wondering if the risk of those out weighs any benefits I might get from it. My RO actually suggested I was more like a Triple negative.

Anyone else have a weak ER+? Did you do hormone therapy?

Bravepoint-my ER+ is low, too (around 35%). My MO suggested that I try femara, then told me that he wouldn't push me to stay on it if the side effects were intolerable. That seemed like a reasonable approach to me. So far, I have made it 6 months on femarawith minimal side effects.

Hi Bravepoint, My ER+ is only 25%, PR+ is 50%. I'm taking anastrozole rather than tamoxifin because I'm post-menopausal. My MO said any positive is reason to take the hormone therapy. It does sometimes make me wonder if the anastrozole is doing any good but just in case, I'll stay on it. I started around the same time I began radiation.

I think the fact that you're PR - is why your RO suggested you may be considered triple negative. From what my MO told me, PR + helps with the effectiveness of the anastrozole. I don't know if that is true for tamoxifin, too

If you do give the tamoxifin a try and you have two many side effects, go off it. I understand the side effects clear up once the drug is stopped. You may also want to consider getting another opinion.

    Best of luck to you!
