edited February 2017 in Waiting for Test Results

My life has been not going my way for the last couple weeks. The newest bump in the road is a biopsy on Thursday. I'd love to get your take on my situation.

1. I am 45 years old and post menopausal. (I have not had a period in three years. I guess this makes me post?)

2. I have a family history of cancer.

3. I had a routine 3D mammogram 2.5 weeks ago.

4. After comparing this mammogram with one I had 6 years ago, I was called back due to a focal asymmetry.

5. I had a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound.

6. I was found to have a .6 x .5 x .3cm hypoechoic mass with indistinct/slightly irregular margins.

7. The radiologist rated it a 4. She told me she doesn't use a, b or c and saves five for cases she is positive they are cancer.

8. I am scheduled for a biopsy on Thursday.

I want to learn and get a realistic idea of where I stand. It is such a small mass that I know even if it is cancer, it can be cured. I would love if you would give your 2 cents or even a dollar. (I live my life with humor. Feel free to use it if you like!)

Thanks for the opportunity to join this community. (Although, I really wish none of us had to be here.)

Sorry that you find yourself apart of the community, but like me I'm sure you're glad it's around. As you know that a cancer diagnosis cannot be made until the pathologist reviews the biopsy but I think the waiting alone should have some kind of diagnosis of its own, as we all have the same symptomology including anxiety, restlessness, fear, insomnia, heart palpitations, anger and so on and so on. but time eventually passes and each procedure is eventually done. Just know there are many understanding people to talk with here.

If a biopsy does reveal cancer then the options of treatment will depend on so many different factors including but not limited to staging and grading etc. etc. And you are right, with all the advancements in Breast Cancer treatments we are often deemed "cured".

I remember way back when I received my Breast Cancer "package" so to speak from the Cancer Clinic, a nurse advised me to read only to the point of what I know I will be undergoing. So for instance, if my next appointment was a lumpectomy then read up on this procedure's why and how's but don't go reading up on worst case scenarios because the vast majority of us are success stories and live long health lives. Yes, we will never be able to forget our diagnosis, treatments and follow ups, and yes we may all have a second thought with each new ache, cough or pain but we live and most resume our normal or near normal lives.

I truly hope your biopsy comes out clean and benign. Do keep us posted.

    Angela,

Based on what you posted, having a biopsy is a wise thing. Does it mean you have cancer? Nope. It means they really don't know.

The report of ".6 x .5 x .3cm hypoechoic mass with indistinct/slightly irregular margins" is a bit of a flag with "indistinct/slighly irregular margins". Again,it doesn't mean you have cancer. It can be other things as well. It's just that it's not characteristly B9 looking, which would have distinct margins, clearly defined.

Take a deep breath. Don't do any research. I would say that if you wanted a 4a,4b,or 4c designation, my layperson's experience with all the years I have been on here, I would put you at a 4b. The area where you really aren't leaning more towards B9 OR Cancer. You are really in the spot of "need a biopsy to know"

    Hope this helps
