Hello everyone!

I felt pain in my ribs( under my right breast with lumpectomy) 2 months after my rads finished. My onc said it was normal. I still have the pain that is not constant but comes and goes and is sensitive to touch in a certain place and after touch I also feel the pain in bottom ribs both in front and back of my body. But this is not my real concern now since I have had the similar pain in the opposite side of my chest (the normal side) which has lasted for nearly 2 months. My surgeon and my Onc told me wait. I scheduled for a bone scan but I canceled it because I'm afraid of its side effects ( regarding that I had radiotherapy and two ct scans in 7 months). Now I wonder if anyone has such problem and what she does for it.

thank you

I had rib pain on the side opposite BC starting a few months after chemo and rads. It eventually went away. I was concerned, but not enough to get it checked out because it wasn't the BC side. I've since cracked my ribs from coughing with a bad chest cold. Again didn't go in because it gradually got better and I knew the cause.

If your pain continues, I'd go ahead and get the bone scan, or would an x-ray be enough?

Thank you Dear Doxie. Although I didn't like to go for bone scan, I did it at last 4 days ago and it did show nothing thank god. Can you tell how long it took to get away?

    :)

I'm glad you got an all clear from the scan.

It took about a year for the pain to fully go away. It gradually got better and came off and on, so I didn't bring it up with my doctors.

    Thank you dear Doxie.

Yes we usually know our body better than our doctors ;)

I hope you are always healthy and happy :)

Dear Fari95- so thrilled to hear your bone scan was normal. I am also plagued with pains on the mastectomy side, but also more worryingly on the "normal" side! I am 4 1/2 years post mastectomy, and I still get them from time to time ! I don't know what causes these, but may have something to do with the disruption in our muscles, different posture etc. I can however give you a tip to ease the pain. If you apply heat to the area it eventually subsides. If like me, you are also plagued by a very itchy phantom nipple- heat will also take away the terrible itch. I hope this gives you some relief.
