I would go by the info on the label.

    Good luck with your scan!

My hospital always chills the readi-cat so it tastes better, but if you're unsure you can always call the CT department.  They'll tell you for sure what's safe to do!  Good luck with the scan!

They recommend you chill it just to make it less obnoxious, but it's ok if you have it at room temperature also.  After my first CT scan that showed my digestive tract was fine, I got my MO to take off the requirement for the ready-cat so it's just dye contrast.  It gave me such bad flatulence, I was afraid I'd take off like a hot air balloon.

I was a CT tech, you can drink it either way but it's typically better tolerated when it's chilled b

Cive, The only thing about only doing IV contrast is you miss getting info on the digestive tract. The Redicat is what enhances the digestive tract, the IV contrast enhances the venous system. You get the most out of a scan by doing both. So be careful what you are asking for. Best wishes to you.

Kandy, as I noted, I didn't stop taking the redicat until after the first CT scan showed my digestive tract was fine.  After the next scan, my MO is changing me to a once yearly scan.  I have TMs done every other month and they do work for me so unless I have symptoms I'm happy to do without redicat.

Interestingly, I'm in for my CT scan today and they used IV contrast only not oral at all.  2 times ago they'd switched to an oral contrast that wasn't barium based (like readi-cat is), but looks like no oral contrast is their new protocol, at least for the ones I need.  Not sure why, but no more barium works for me!
