Camisoles stretchy enough to pull up over hips
Hi all,
I am hoping some of you might have found camisoles or even rib sleeveless tanks that are stretchy, so I can pull them on & off from below.
I'm just about two weeks post BMX and although I am doing well, I am not quite flexible enough yet to get a tight cotton jersey type camisole on over my head. And if I could, I couldn't get it back off.
This doesn't necessarily have to be something that will hold foobs, although if any of those like the Still You or other non-surgical mastectomy ones is that stretchy, I'd love to know about it. I do have my surgical one but boy is it ugly.
I'm not particularly big, hips probably 38", so I could size up, but I'm hoping rather than buying a too-big item that will gap at the top that I can find a super stretchy soft one.
I would be planning to treat this as a first layer and just put a zip hoodie or something else front opening on as my main shirt for now. I just don't want the zip or the button placket touching my skin. And of course I'd be the type to unzip my hoodie forgetting there was nothing under it, don't want to be arrested for scar flashing. So you can see I need a first layer for the protection of the public.
I am going to be travelling/driving alone probably in the next week or so (back to my normal work schedule), and my nightmare is to be stuck in my clothing in a hotel room somewhere. I know someone who was stuck in her top at the gym after her surgery and had to be rescued by a kind soul in the locker room, but I don't think I can call the front desk of a hotel for that kind of help! I will keep a scissors handy and cut my way out if I have to. But better not to do that, right?
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks,
jinmo

I'm in Australia, but I found some great bamboo ones. They are so soft, lots of stretch, but bounce right back into shape. These are made here, but hopefully you can find some.

jinmo - have you tried target? their merona brand has stretchy camis with thin spaghetti straps and no shelf bra - love them, and I think I could step into it and pull up. http://www.target.com/p/womens-favorite-cami-meron...
they also sell those wifebeater things, but I haven't bought those - I think they would lose their stretch fast.
good luck!

I wore boy's Jockey ribbed undershirts, link below. I could step in and pull them up, no problem, and they are inexpensive.

This is my favorite, Amoena brand, Valletta is the style. Incredibly soft and comfy and I pull it up from below. I'm 3 month out from bmx and still cant pull some things over my head but am working on it.
I got mine at a local prosthetics shop and it does hold foobs. Do you have prosthetics coverage on your medical ins? If so bras should be covered, even if you are not doing foobs. I am allowed 2 bras per year so I got one bra and one camisole. I wear the cami 95% of the time, its so comfortable.

Thanks you guys, this was awesome and quick info. I just ordered a couple from Target and a package of the boys one from Amazon.
A-boob, you're a January surg thread sister!
Poppy I am going to have to look at what my insurance covers, I'm not sure but I think there is something. That is a really pretty cami, I had seen it before but wasn't sure if it would stretch enough so thank you. It will be a few weeks before I heal enough to make an official "fitting" appointment and I will check it out then, since it is a little higher priced.

jinmo - I also used the prosthetics initially that came with my surgical camisole, or you can get them from TLC Direct. They are cotton on the outside and you fill them with fluffy stuff - to whatever size you want - like a tiny pillow sham. They are soft and lightweight - really good for the initial tender period. I used a Genie or Coobie bra (links below) and stuffed the soft prosthetic into the pocket of those stretchy bras. FYI I needed a larger than normal size in the Genie bra, I wear a 34 band in a regular bra but needed the large in the Genie. Worked great. Here is a link to the ones from TLC Direct:

It's been over 5 years, but Target's stretchy cotton tank tops were easy to step in to and pull up

I really like the Jockey brand cami called "Supersoft". They are comfy and actually are Supersoft. I purchased at Amazon. Lots of colors to choose from too!

I pull up all camis and sport bras, still. They all seem to have plenty of stretch. My hips are big. The Genie bras are comfortable, and have pockets, but run way small. If you want some compression, the Cami Shaper is comfortable, but get 2 sizes bigger than the chart says.

Try forever 21 too.

So much good stuff here, thank you all. I will wait for my initial purchases to get here and post back on how they fit.
I got one today but it makes me wonder what the heck I was thinking, this was before all ya'll's good advice. It is high necked, I think somewhere in my post surgery fog I was thinking it would be nice for it be way above my scars but neglected to think that I can't possibly pull it over my buns. Maybe later, when my arms are back to more normal status.

yummie tummy available online. When I had my mastectomy, after I got out of the surgical cami, a wonderful woman told me about them. Wearing these camis is like getting a gentle hug.

Thanks everybody for these additional ideas.
I came back to report on the Target camisoles, they are indeed awesome. The ones I bought are the exact ones annoyingboob linked to. They are 95% rayon, 5% spandex and say Merona, not Mossimo. I bought mediums and they came up over my hips just fine and were just the tiniest bit gappy on the top. For size reference, I was a 34 bra band and my hips measure 38-39 or so.
The camis do not bother my extremely sensitive underarms at all. The straps are lingerie-style adjustables so you can lengthen them to get them down away from wherever your scar or node removal spot is.
And as my stretching has continued, all of a sudden I was able to take a shirt off over my head! So now I have bought some size smalls, too.
I bought the boys' undershirts as well but it is, ahem, umm, possible that after all my Target cami shopping I had no excuse to even open the package of boys shirts. So I am sending it back to the seller.
The Forever21s sound like a good cheap option as the Targets are around $8-9 or 4-5 on clearance. Target does have others that are 95/5 cotton/spandex, be careful in the store as I accidentally bought some of those. Back they go!
I can't tell you how happy I am with these. No more loose shirts irritatingly brushing my chest while driving, exercising, etc. I have just plain stopped thinking about the skin on my chest which is a first since surgery.
A couple of things that don't work (from my closet, not from buying):
- Old Navy non-adj strap ones
- one I had from Forever Seamless that looks perfect but is 76 spandex/24 nylon and is just incredibly skin irritating for no reason I can see
- a couple of nice stretchy Spandex-y ones in more of a muscle shirt style, can't stand them up under my arms.
All right, that's all I've got.
Take care, all!
