Violently ill every two weeks on 20mg Tamoxefin

Options

Diagnosed with DCIS 2015. Two surgeries (lumpectomy) and Radiation treatments. Oncotype DX score of 40. Started Tamoxefin in November 2015, Very dizzy and diahrea. Went off for one week until I could see Dr., but she said it was the best medication for me so put me back on and said my body needed time to adjust.

Starting July 24, I woke up at 2am violently ill for two hours. Thought it was something I ate. Then it happened October 1, Nov. 25, and since then I have these episodes every other week. Wake up from dead sleep around 2am with diahrea and vomiting for two hours then I am fine, just tired and a little sore.

Had a CT scan on gut. Now they want to do GI. Keep hearing from Dr. they have never heard of this before. Has anyone out there had this type of reaction, or am I truly alone?

Are you taking it with food and water? I can become nauseated if I don't eat or am dehydrated, or sometimes even if I take my medications with my meal--it works best to get food and liquid in my stomach first. I also take metformin, which causes these side effects, so I can't say if tamoxifen is the culprit in my case.

    Best of luck!

It may not be Tamoxifen but another issue, or a combination of issues. I'm glad they are doing a Gut check and they may need to scope it to find out what is going on. Tamoxifen is quick to get the blame on nearly everything. I highly doubt if it's only occurring once every 2 weeks it's Tamoxifen which you are taking daily.

See GI Monday, but stopped taking Tamoxefin on Fridays and have not been sick since.

Sorry you're having to deal with this issue ..If it's the tamoxifen causing you to feel ill you would think it would happen daily ..? I hope they can sort the problem out quickly for you .

Litpath...sorry you are going through this. Just be aware that a lot of MOs are reluctant to validate SEs from anti hormone therapy. IMO the 2 week cycle of symptoms could be hormonal changes. I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck and keep us posted.
