I have a bloody discharge. Had mammogram and ultra sound that showed cysts. MRI shows a non mass enhancement with vascular activity. But quite small. I went for the ultra sound guided biopsy and they didn't perform one. They saw "several cysts with debris"...Said they couldn't tell if they were biopsying the right spot. I thought this seemed odd that they even scheduled it then?! I have been pretty anxious for the two week wait and i now have to wait for my period to have the have the biopsy done with MRI guidance. I'm really disappointed that i have to wait agaiN.

THe order for biopsy said with ultra sound or MRI. Why didn't they just do the MRI two weeks ago?! I hate the waitibg

Don't sweat too much. Easier said than done I know. It's likely that they are fibroadenomas, or something else benign. Still, good you are getting it checked out.

Quick tip though- I had an MRI biopsy about a month ago and it hurts a little more than a regular one because the needle is bigger. In my case, they used a 9 gauge, and I think they hit some veins bc I had a hematoma. Again, not everyone experiences this, so you'll be ok. Possible they will use a smaller needle for yours. Just take an extra strength tylenol to play it safe- I wished I had lol. Good luck to you!! Thoughts and prayers!

I should clarify, mine was an MRI vacuum assisted biopsy. I'm not sure if this is the same as what you will get.

The usual practice is, they will perform Mammo and US, and if needed they will send you to MRI. If they see something from MRI, they will let you go back for a second-look US because usually it will be easier to see the mass after MRI has provided location and as much as possible they want to do an US guided or stereotactic biopsy over a MRI guided biopsy because it is time consuming, very uncomfortable and very expensive. Now if they don't see anything from a second look US, they will send you back to MRI for a MRI guided biopsy.

Last November MRI saw a non mass enhancement and a mass enhancement on my right breast. They were very small. They sent me back for a 2nd look US and an US guided biopsy but 3 radiologist and a tech did US on my right breast and found nothing. They cancelled the US guided biopsy. What they saw was a complex cyst and the head radiologist said he was not impressed with the MRI results and recommended a 6 months follow up. I have fibrocystic breasts by the way. They also asked me if I want to do a MRI guided biopsy and I said NO. I dont want any poking on my breast if 4 doctors (that includes my breast surgeon) say they are not worried. They even led me to the reading room and explained to me what the MRI might have seen. So I will be back in May for a followup MRI and Mammo.
