Leg, ankle and foot swelling
Hi, everyone. I'm Eva and I have stage 4, ER+ breast cancer with bone Mets. I was diagnosed in November of 2012.
I'm having a situation and I'd like to know if anyone else has gone through anything similar.
I threw my back out about a week and a half ago. It was so bad that my Pain Management Dr prescribed muscle relaxers and added Motrin to my daily regime of medication: letrozole, dilauded, Lexapro, odansetron, etc. After they were added, my legs from below the knee, ankles and feet have been swollen and painful. But, up until the last few nights, I've been sleeping in a chair, in the living room. The spasms in my back were that bad.
I try to elevate my feet if I can, but, the swelling only subsides a little bit. Is this something I should go to the ER about or do you think it will resolve itself?

Hi Eva, I do think you should call your Dr first thing in the morning. I would be concerned that you might have a blood clot. I definitely think you should have it checked out. Best wishes to

My DH had swollen legs and shortness of breath and it turned out to be a blood clot. Try calling your doctor but if you have shortness of breath I would go to the ER. Some medications can cause blood clots.

If you are reading this during the daytime, call your doctor. If at night, call your doctor, but be prepared to go to the ER.
If one leg is swollen, it could be a clot. But if both are swollen equally, you have to be concerned about cardio/pulmonary issues. It might just be because you are less active due to the back strain, but you must have it checked out!
Let us know how it turns out. But you must get medical advice quickly.

Hi Eva,
My mom had bad swelling in her legs after a flight. She went to the onc who thought it might be clots, but the ultrasound was fine. She had the swelling for weeks. Finally she had a Chinese foot massage and they worked out her legs. After a couple sessions the foot swelling completely disappeared. It wasn't very strange. I think it must have just been excess fluid. Anyway- it's important to first check for blood clots. If it turns out to be clear you might want to try massage. My mother said it was quite painful at first-but issue ompletely cleared up!
