When does the pain go away?

After my lumpectomy on October 18, the medical oncologist "suggested" chemo, but I declined. The statistics show a better long term outcome with radiation and hormone therapy, so that was my choice. The radiation oncologist set me up for 19 treatments, and I finished 2 weeks ago. The radiation itself was very easy, and no side- effects appeared until after the 11th treatment. My armpit turned totally black, and my breast got very red with a bumpy texture. The black skin is gradually peeling away, revealing bright pink underneath. The fatigue seems to be easing up, but the pain is not diminishing as I'd hoped. The armpit and breast are still quite painful, and the breast itself has "zingers" that take my breath away. I'm sure hoping this isn't a long term thing. How long did your pain last?

two weeks or so? But then I had chemo and it hurt all over again! Six weeks after that I was waterskiing. Hang in there. It. Gets. Better.

Jcolby- My radiation after lumpectomy ended Dec. 14. Surgery was Aug. 30th. My skin issues resolved pretty quickly, but those ZINGERS still happen and are quite startling. My breast aches, especially when I take off my bra, or have my period, but I can't say it is full on pain. Wishing you well :)
