Frozen peas for hands/feet - taxotere/neuropathy

Hi everyone, I begin chemo on January 24, and want to ice my hands and feet to (hopefully) prevent neuropathy. I'd like to use bags of frozen peas for both hands and feet. Do I just need to focus on my palms and the soles of my feet, or do I need to have bags for the tops of my hands and feet, too?

Also, I was experimenting with a bag and, whew... I wasn't able to handle the intense cold on my palms for more than a minute or two before taking my palms off the bag for a few seconds, then putting them back. Is that okay? Or do I need to keep them on the bags all the time, regardless of the pain?

Thanks for your advice.

MyJourney's - I answered in detail on the other thread where you asked this question, as did several others.

Minus, thank you so much for your reply in the other thread. There was only one other reply, but it didn't answer my question on how to use the peas, so hopefully others will share their experiences, too. Thanks again!

I have not personally seen much confirmed data regarding the efficacy of icing for neuropathy prevention, but I did ice to prevent nail loss. I know there is a current study at Northwestern, but I have not seen any results info from it. I used frozen peas that I brought in a cooler and laid the bags of peas across my toes, and dug my fingers into them for the entire duration of the Taxotere infusion. My infusions went in the order of pre-meds, than Taxotere, then Carboplatin, then Herceptin. I also held ice chips in my mouth simultaneously to prevent mouth sores. To combat neuropathy I did take a 50mg B6 and 30g of powdered L-Glutamine, daily.
