Aspirin
Has anyone who is postmenopausal been placed on Aspirin by their oncologist and is so at what dose.
I have read SusanGKormen " beyond the heart of the matter" and it appears that Aspirin might have a beneficial effect in preventing breast cancer recurrence.
There are the obvious potential side effects of gastro-intestinal side effects but at low does the Ischemic Heart disease world ( many men over 50) have been taking 100-150 mg of aspirin for many years.
As no longer protected by oestrogen our heart disease risk increase so provided one does not have a bleeding problem or a gastro-intestinal complaint it might be beneficial.
I will ask my oncologist at the next appointmentComments

Mine did. She said take the 91 mg baby aspirin per day. Also she monitors my vitamin D level, but other than the aspirin and the D, she is strictly standard of case, doesn't discuss alternative stuff much. I figure if she is as conservative as she is and she recommends baby aspirin, I should take it. I am post menopausal.

I was also told to take an aspirin a day - however I believe it was for heart & stroke benefit and not for cancer.

- It seems that inflammation and the development of cancer are related. It also may be that there is a relationship between prostaglandins and aromatase ( the enzyme that converts androgens to Estrogen in postmenopausal women) so NSAIDs or aspirin may play a role in hormone positive breast cancer.Very early days - but I was curious if most oncologist recommended it's use.I take 100 mg a day - it's the standard cardiac dose in Australia.

Since I don't have a problem with bleeding, I take 325 mg every night. Have been since dx.

thank you for posting the link - my thoughts precisely
I was wondering if it reached the general medical stream...
It's simple, cheap and may help.

Hi there, I am on low dose aspirin daily and hoping it is helping. This past week I was hooked up with a holster monitor to access my my rapid heart rate. I should here back within 2 Weeks if all is good. Estrogen seems to be a key factor in heart health and I have been on AI's for 3 years. Hoping that that all is good but can't help being concerned this is once again another side effect.

That was the second part of my question - at what dose.
We know from the heart work that 100-150mg have protective effects on the entholium of blood vessels....
But a large retrospective trial looking at low dose aspirin concluded no significant statistical benefit but noted the doses studied might be low.
I am trying to figure out how to paste into the forum.
I imagine ( and the word is appropiate) that is it not clear.
Most papers have sprung in the last two years.
