Swim Foobs

Hello All! It's been 5 years since my bi lateral mastectomy and I haven't been swimming since. Hubby and I are going on a cruise and I'd really like to take advantage of the pools and tropical beaches we visit. I ordered swim foobs but they are like wearing heavy sand bags... and this is before they are wet. Can someone recommend a good brand of light weight, quick drying swim foobs.

TIA!

Here are a couple of links to threads discussing swim foob solutions. Disclaimer - even though I am fairly crafty I tried to make the swim poofy out of the bath scrubbie thing and it was an epic fail, lol! Maybe you will have better luck!

A few years ago I noticed a women with an amazing swimsuit while swimming with my kids. I ask her about it and it turns out she had met a lady who sews swimsuits individually. I had thought of asking her to make me a racing swimsuit for larger women because this is before breast cancer. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could just find a swimsuit with the lightweight foob sewn into the suit or a nice designed flat tank that makes it comfortable and fashionable to not worry about it at all.

What would be wonderful is if we could find a swimsuit designer or seamstress who could alter a swimsuit for you or perhaps sew one. Maybe she could just sew in a lightwieght form with no chance of slipping out. I bet if you found a nice suit you could find a tailor who may be able to do that. The place to start would be to call the local gymnastic shops for kids. Many time they sell handmade local suits that are made of that great lycra material. They might know a seamstress who could modify or make you a suit. Also you could check if there is a local mastectomy shop in your area. I live in a small area and there is a lady here who has been incredibly helpful to me.

I also found a swim form called "trulife activeflow symmetrical triangle swim breast form". I am trying to find one that is hollowed out or that I can remove some beads from as I have reconstruction but it really doesn't look great in a swimsuit.

I just stuffed two of the largest bath poufs I could find in the pocket on each side of the mastectomy bathing suit.

They were light weight and dried fast.

Like Special K, I also tried to make the swim poufs out of the bath poufs. I didn't like their appearance as just stuffing the pockets with the bath poufs.

Here's a wonderful website that I found and used to make my own micro-bead forms. We went on a cruise in December and they held up perfectly in the water and on that beach: http://mastectomysolutions.com/sew-your-own-breast... Here in Canada, microbeads aren't being sold anymore so I went to a thrift store and purchased a pillow that had them.

I also had another bathing suit that I'd put the bath poufs in but didn't like it nearly as much.

I just use my 'regular' prosthesis for swimming - works great - looks great. Dries off as fast (and easy) as drying off my skin and hair.

I don't spend a lot of time in the water. Most of my swimming is in lakes/streams (fresh water) when we're out boating, fishing, camping - not in chlorinated pools. Do swim occasionally in chlorinated pools/water parks - no issues.

I use Amoena Aqua Wave swim forms. They work good and insurance covered them.
