I back up all of my original photos before editing and also copy them to my backup drive. I've been having laptop problems for months and have repaired it twice to avoid getting a new one because I don't like Windows 10.
I nearly freaked out last weekend when my laptop would not turn on up in the mountains because I did not have my edited photos from my Thanksgiving swamp birds photo shoot backed up yet. Turns out it was just the monitor on the laptop and I was able to fully backup again when I got home and connected it to my external monitor.
I ordered a new laptop today (Windows 10 sigh). This one comes with an even better screen and I plan to get the Spyder color calibrator soon. Looking forward to new levels of photo editing, even though I did not plan for a new laptop and my new lens this year.

Hi ladies. I haven't had a chance to post but have read as I have time. Love the moon shot.
Thanks for sharing the UK scene and the decorated cemetery.
Wren, hopefully one day you will be able to tackle the swans. I would love to see it once you have.
I remember when I took some workshops on composition this teacher was so extremely specific about every little thing and then when I would go to print......................all bets were off so it was a bit frustrating after watching every little detail as he thought we should.
His classes did make me much more aware and the importance of slowing down and composing your shots so you don't have irritating things in the background that you didn't even notice when you were shooting so fast.
There are rules and then rules are made to be broken. In the end it is up to the artist to chose which way they want to go and why.
It was interesting to get all your perspectives. I say if the journey is not fun then why do it. I will continue to shoot as long as it is fun and I am still able to do it physically.
Have a good weekend. I am getting ready to see a Celtic Woman concert tonight. It is very cold here and to get worse tomorrow. Can't wait!

My husband took this shot...Olaf is sitting on our landing in the backyard...it's been in the 30s here in my neck of Nor Cal. I do NOT like the cold. We went for a walk a couple of days ago with our dog Sofia, and my teeth actually hurt! First time that's happened. My inner ears usually hurt from the cold, so I always wear a hat or ear muffs, but the teeth were something else!

Scottie, the Celtic Woman concert was AWESOME!!!! I loved every minute of it. They were nominated for a Grammy for the first time I think,
Lisa, beautiful light festival.
Lita, love your Olaf pic. I have been bitterly cold but my teeth never hurt. Ouch!
Haven't had much time for pics but I did take this one the other day. This is Cammie. She is a Ragdoll.

Love The Mountains.. and Merry Christmas!

Enjoying all the lovely pixs. Laying around with my tablet recovering from lumbar epi this morning. No plans for photographs until New Year's Day when we go to the annual light festival at our Callaway Gardens. They have a new display this year for their 25th.
Also need to get my new laptop up and running this weekend. Time to embrace Windows 10 and have to get all my programs loaded.

I was lucky that all three of my sons and both grandkids could be with us on Christmas Day.

Lisa your home is lovely. I wish I could keep mine looking like that. I guess organization will be my New Year's resolution. I need to clear out and give away some stuff before 2017.

one of those chairs was my "worry " chair .When I have lots and lots to worry about, I make myself only do it when I sit in that chair. Not when I am not sitting there. Somehow that works for me

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Lisa, I agree with Scottie. Your home is lovely. I found a nursery at my mom's that had some orchids blooming. This really is my first time spending time shooting orchids. It was fun and challenging since they were in a Christmas display with poinsettias all in the background. I left my tripod at home by mistake. I am at my mom's for three weeks.
Here are some pics from the nursery. I don't think I have ever taken pics inside a nursery before. Lighting was a challenge.

This morning. I saw some white pelicans so I drove home for my camera. By the time I returned 15 minutes later, they were back to migrating to Mexico.

Great Photos... it's too cold here to even think about going out... waiting for the warm up

Beautiful birds Lisa. You need to turn your shots into a calendar. I used snapfish to make 2017 calendars from my wildlife photos. They had a 75 off sale in November.

The trial and tribulations of being a photographer: I had to get a new laptop because my old windows 7 one, which I loved, was failing. I've been sick with the flu so had not set up all the software on the new one, and the hew one has Windows 10 which I hate. So I'm on vacation trying to navigate the new laptop and download software on slow wi-fi to edit my pics. Not going well.
I did get some lovely sunrise photos this morning.

I hated my windows 10 so much I went out and bought a new windows 7.

Happy New Year. Loving all the birds and flowers and sunsets. I just got back from a three week stay with my mom. She is failing physically and more mentally. It has been a very difficult time trying to get many things in place before leaving. She has a walker for the first time, a medical alert system and new phone by her chair and now just needs lots of repetition to remember all of this new stuff. Very stressful knowing what the next right thing to do for her is.
No time for picture taking for a while.
I dread when my laptop dies because I have my trusty Windows 7 on it and I refused the Windows 10 no matter how much they tried to cram it onto my computer.
I don't know if you can still buy Windows 7 and I know eventually they will stop supporting it but until then..................
-
I would risk voiding the warranty on the new laptop if I have Windows 7 installed over the current operating system. Not a happy camper about it. I had the old laptop repaired three times, but this last time, the monitor went out. I can still use it when attached to an external monitor but cannot use it for travel, so had to buy a new one.
