    BarredOwl, I read the full article "Prognostic role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio . ." and in the methods section, they define it as, "NLR collected prior to all treatment (surgery and/or systematic therapy)"

    there is discussion in the results section of the study about "statistically significant heterogeneity" for OS, which seemed to resolve when subgroup analysis was performed including only early-stage disease. However, for DFS, there was no evidence of statistically significant heterogeneity and included women who had both early stage and metastatic disease status. The effect of NLR appears to remain in the participants regardless of the stage of their disease.

    Thanks for checking that MTwoman. I would still take it to mean that measurements not taken "pre-treatment" within the meaning of the study (e.g., four years later) are not what has been assessed, such that the same correlations may or may not be observed.
