Just spoke to the researcher about this issue. It was very cathartic for me. The interview lasted under an hour. She mentioned she could use a few more volunteers. Thanks in advance for considering it.

I spoke to her also. It was a good feeling for someone to listen

She also has bc and a vet. I think she deserves our support. It's really easy. Just a phone call and a few confirmation emails.

Add me to the group! I am on Herceptin though. I gained it all during treatment, found I could eat rice, potatoes etc on chemo but it caused me to gain 25 pounds as I was not working at all. Ive been back at work since October 30th, am on my feet all day long. Have not lost an ounce but have major back pain after every shift I work. Saw my family doctor yesterday who said it will take time to lose the weight, that I need to go for physiotherapy for my back, and I may have a little PTSD. I'm going to Mexico in 6 days and had to but all new shorts etc. I can't wait for this break, but BC I see never off my mind. Oh I see my MO and have my Herceptin the day before I leave.

Karen - Have a great trip! I'll bet the sun will be heavenly! I'm back at My Fitness Pal and the Fitbit. So far so good. My old WW leader used to say that sugar should be declared an illegal drug and kept behind the pharmacy counter. I have to agree. Once I slip and get back on it it is like falling off the wagon. Love/hate relationship. Xoxo

I gained about 15 lb from the 2 bouts of treatment. Initially I didn't even realize the wt gain because I was too focused on other stuff until my BS brought it to my attention!

I gained about 30 pounds but since I have finished treatment 15 pounds have come off. It seems slow to come off, hope I can get 15 to maybe 20 more pounds off. I don't know if I'll see 120 pounds again.

    Hi,

I think the double mastectomy triggered my weight gain. Oh I miss my hormones. I'm trying to stay towards a vegetarian diet. Let's chat more. Maybe we can help each other.

    Thanks.

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 took Arimidex for 5 years and hated every second of it had every side effect and gained probably 25 to 30 pounds. After I finish I started to lose weight and lost 25 pounds and felt so much better then this September I was diagnosed with a new primary breast cancer double mastectomy with expanders and chemotherapy which I did not do the first time and now they are saying I need to do a hormone blocker again for five years WTF I don't think I can do it I have to talk to my doctor next week and he's really going to push it but quality of life has to mean something chemo gives me five years and I just don't think I can do it anymore it is worse than any of the doctors ever think it is and unless they're going to let me have some kind of gastric bypass surgery because I gained 20 pounds with chemo and I feel like a big fat oink oink I I just don't think I can do it. My new implants we'll look smaller than they actually are because I'm overweight and I don't want to look significantly different. Okay thanks for listening to my rant but I am a little heartbroken!!!

Ugh. +20 lbs since dx, 10 of that since starting letrozole. Having a devil of a time resisting carbs (artisanal breads, pasta, croissants; sweets, not so much). Trained at L.A. Fitness for 3 wks, then I went to London for a week and my trainer had knee surgery. Re-started last night, and started semi-weekly Silver Sneakers classes (not as easy as they sound) this morning. Getting sorer…and hungrier…by the minute. My PCP warned me that I should exercise for my heart and my bones—not for my weight, as only diet will help that (whatever foods let you burn calories in excess of your intake—and different diets work for different people, because it’s more complex than calories in vs. calories out).

Still not much in the way of hair thinning or hot flashes; tough to figure out which joint pains are from AI vs. OA of aging vs. getting accustomed to strength & flexibility training again.

My doctor will be doing the new test that is out and I can't remember the name of it but it will test my tumor tissue and determine whether I will actually benefit from doing any more hormone blocker so I am awaiting the results of that test and hoping that it says a big fat NO!!

Count me in. I've gained 15 lbs since ending chemo (2006) which may not sound bad. However, I am careful what I eat and exercise daily but it doesn't make a difference. I finally ended letrozole after 10 years but started thyroid medication for hypothyroid in 2014. My BP and cholesterol levels have improved after ending AI but the fatigue and joint pain has not gotten better. Same diet and exercise regimen. It seems there are lots of symptom overlap with hypothyroidism. My body feels like I've been run over some days and I just turned 60. It seems like a constant battle with hormones and metabolism that is hard to win.

I didn't have chemo but I did gain a few pounds from Tamoxifen. Not taking it anymore and it has made a difference in managing weight and joint pain. My ONC told me one ofher patients lost 40 lbs while taking it. I don't believe that's the norm.

It's tough having to deal with chemo much less side effects like nausea and weight gain. I feel for you. I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with all of that yet again.

I know several people who have had gastric bypass surgery. It's no walk in the park. My neighbor had all kinds of issues with it like infections. To make matters worse she has gained it all back and then some. My accountant - older lady - had it done and she looks a lot better but her skin really sags. She does try to exercise.

    Good luck.

    Diane
