edited January 2017 in Waiting for Test Results

Hi everyone,

I have found this site and am so pleased that there are actually some lovely people who know what the waiting game is like......I discovered a lump in my breast and only mentioned to my husband one week ago - not sure how long it had been there as i had hoped it was part of my rib cage!! Any how went to my GP last Wednesday and mentioned lump as an after thought - i was in for a mammogram Friday then ultra sound and they also did a core biopsy the same day - now i await the news. I am trying not to google but this waiting is just awful. Sometimes i am fine and other times freaked out! No history of BC in my family but that doesn't mean too much. I am 36 years old...very frightened. Hard to stay focused at work Also can anyone tell me when they did ultra sound they actually got a ruler out and measured my lump - it wasn't liquid that came out of the biopsy either!! Is that a bad thing??? Sorry just going crazy!!

    Hey Postive Fingers,

I, too, am waiting. I hear tomorrow my results. This is the second time I've been through this- the first time it was a benign papilloma. Did the radiologist give you any indication as to what they thought it was? Both times I was told they thought it was a fibroadenoma. I asked straight up after my biopsy what the radiologist thought and he said it was a smooth lump and soft and he wouldn't worry too much.

When do you find out your results? It's super hard not to panic, but we just have to hope for the best! Hugs to you.

P.S. Not necessarily a bad sign that it wasn't liquid... were you thinking it was a cyst? The US tech showed me my specimen afterwards. Definitely bits of tissue. I'm sure that's what it looked like last time they biopsed me too and it was benign.

    Hi there,

Thanks so much for your kind words, i don't have an appointment for results as yet as i am contacting my dr to confirm results are in and then to go to dr. I was told not to go to my Dr appointment alone :( They didn't really give anything away to me on Friday - i always thought i was just over reacting re the lump but things have escalated so quickly. The Dr that did the U/sound said it was a worrying lump hence having the core biopsy. Sending both of you hugs and best luck for good news when you get your results.....i will keep you informed with my results too :) Thanks for posting it means heaps to hear from you and anyone else out there. This is a very lonely time.

hi, I have just found this group tonight. A few days ago I found a dimple on my breast while doing a check. For the first time I stood in front of the mirror to do it. The dimple was so slight I just thought it could be something else.

When my son or daughter (1 and 3) have jumped on my I have felt my breast really soar.

Tonight in the shower I found a really tiny hard lump behind where I saw the dimple. I was lying down and felt it again. I can only feel it with my arm raised.

Iv not told anyone about the lump. I told my husband about the dimple. I can't believe I am here again - I am 33 and last year I finally got my 5 years clear from cervical cancer. I had fertility saving surgery at the time then a hysterectomy a year ago this week. Back to the waiting game again.

I will make a drs appointment tomorrow and hope I don't need to wait too long for tests. The waiting is defo the worst so you are all in my thoughts.

it's such a worrying time for all of us....I'm hoping I handle the news much better than I've handled the waiting....there just seems to be something to remind me of the worry every time I pick up my phone or turn the tv on.....

I'm thinking of you all and praying we all have nothing to worry about x

They just posted my results on my patient portal from the US and it says Birads 4b! Everything the radiologist said made it sound as if it was nothing... now I'm totally freaked out. Crossing my fingers that my BS calls with results so very soon.

Hi Jones, don't fret. I was also Birads 4 on my MRI. But downgraded to 3 after the second look US. Birads 4 positive predictive value is around 20-30%. The odds are still with you 70 - 80%. Let's be positive. It is easier said and done. When I was in your place 3 mos ago, I couldnt sleep too, couldnt eat couldnt concentrate on anything. But afterall that, I realized, I just wasted time worrying about nothing. It is the anxiety that will kill us not the condition. The teaching hosp where I work and where I was seen do not post MRI, mammo or US results in patients portals. It will just say if the results are out but will not give reading. I guess because they dont want patients to be anxious and they want patients to talk to doctors about the results first before proceeding to anymore tests.

Thank you RNstrong for the encouragement!

I was doing great with my anxiety until today because the call should be coming. What you said helps.

Hey Jones777 - thinking of you today and praying for good news. I hope they don't make you wait to long for your call.

I contacted my doctors office twice yesterday but at that stage no results thru only my mammogram which is of no help. I just need the biopsy results......i keep getting butterfly's, worse thing is i am not allowed any results over the phone i have to go into my dr office. I'm in New Zealand prehaps things are different here?

Sending lots of positive vibes and hugs

PS sorry to ask but what are Birads? I was never told of mine just straight to biopsy after the US!

I just googled it and OMG think i would be a 4...yikes i'm scared

Don't "freak" about a BiRADs of "4." That's the minimum that will get you to biopsy. Then of all the women who are sent to biopsy, 80% will be told that their results are benign.

There's no reason to think that you would be in the 20%.

    Hang in there!

    Hi everyone,

Well i have been told i have breast cancer :( now i wait again to see specialist etc and find out what happens next. All they could tell me is that it is hormonal unsure what that means.

    Hi PF!

"Hormonal" means that hormone production is feeding your cancer. So, it is either ER+/PR+ or ER+/PR-. That's actually good news because it means that you have the option of using hormonal therapy as a systemic treatment. But, ((HUGS)). I'm sure that's not the news you were hoping to hear.

Thanks Elaine, appreciate your post. To be honest i don't think the news has really hit me yet. I was so anxious about getting the results and when i did it was like scary calm.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis! I felt a little better once I got my diagnosis. Waiting for biopsy and results was horrible. Just knowing one way or another was a relief! Good luck to you!
