Bone scan results
Hello!
I had a bone scan on Friday. The results came back today. Oncologist called and said L hip trouble, but not concerned. I am concerned because I worry about any possibility of recurrence. This was my report:
**Focal sclerotic density with a nidus involving the superior aspect of the left acetabulum, this is a nonspecific finding and may represent degenerative change however osteomyelitis can have this appearance. A nidus can also be seen in an osteoid osteoma however these lesions are rarely seen in a patient of this age and there is no focal increased radiotracer uptake involving the nidus. Metastatic disease could also be considerd but is thought less likely.**
Anyone understand this or think I should have a 2nd opinion? I am 2 yr BC survivor (diagnosed Nov '14) Hormone positive. Bilateral mastectomy. 10 nodes removed, 1 was cancerous.
Thanks for listening!
Melissa

Maybe they could repeat it in a few months.... Or get an MRI or a second opinion

My first bone scan recommended a rescan a few months later due to something seen on my arm. My MO was unconcerned. I was rescanned 10 months later. No change to the 'whatever' in my arm. Nothing to worry about. Hopefully, yours is the same. I would get a rescan in a few months. Good luck and be well

Why was that test needed? Perhaps there is some persistent pain being investigated. You look too young for osteoarthritis so the reason it was done might be good to understand.
I had a bone scan two years ago because my serum calcium was high. Turned out to be lab error!
It is certainly natural to be concerned about metastatic disease. Hopefully you are also on endocrine/anti-hormone therapy which can starve any possible escaped cells from the estrogen they might use...

Honestly your doctors work for you. If you're not comfortable, and I understand why you may not be , I'd ask for an MRI or cat scan. Its your health. I assume you're on an antihormonal ? If not you should be and be very diligent in taking it daily. Good luck and keep us posted.

PS. I take Aromasin daily. Was on Arimidex and it was adding to my neuropathy troubles. Thanks!!

Glad it turned out to be nothing too bad! Everything is always so scary after being diagnosed
What will you be doing for the bursitis? I suspect I have the same problem in my right hip.
Thanks, Cyndi

I have been seeing an ortho for bursitis too. Post if you find something that works
