Finishing herceptin

With 3 more infusions to go I'm wondering what the biggest changes were when you ended your 18 herceptin infusions? I'm hoping especially for a big 'hair growth boost'
-
I just had my last infusion on Dec 30th so it hasn't been long...hoping to see a big hair growth boost myself!!
So far it's just felt strange not to have to go back in 3 weeks...and slightly unsettling in that I kind of felt like the Herceptin every 3 weeks was like "insurance" and now it's gone...so part of me worries that the cancer might start to grow again now that I no longer get infusions. I am hearing this is common though...I expect it gets easier with time (like everything else!).
Congrats on being almost finished!

Hey Kimm992, congratulations on finishing herceptin. I have the exact same feelings you have. Glad to be (almost) done with it, but also afraid and wondering if my body will be okay on it's own.

Hi Ladies who have finished Herceptin,
Just wondering at what point did you ditch your wigs? I am nine weeks PFC and have barely any growth compared to the photos of others who have finished chemo and are not on Herceptin. About how much hair can I expect to have after 12 months of Herceptin? I am not looking forward to having to wear a wig all day at work once I go back, but I think I will have to do so. I just can't imagine having enough coverage at the rate it is currently growing. (Going back to work at about eight months into Herceptin.)
Thanks!!

I am on Herceptin 13/18, finish in April and freaking out. After all the tratments to stop everithing it,s a very scary feeling

Akioli, the biggest change I had after finishing Herceptin was a big energy boost. I noticed about 6-8 weeks after my final H. that I had much more energy--I felt much more like my "old" self. While receiving H I didn't realize how much it was affecting my energy levels--I just felt so much better than I had when I was on chemo that I didn't realize I still wasn't fully back to my normal levels. So once off H, it became apparent how it had been making me tired!

Stephincanada, I was about 12 weeks pfc when I ditched a head scarf. I think nothing really grew on my bald head until about 8 weeks pfc but about then it very slowly but steadily started to fill in. I just got so sick of covering my head that once I had a very very light layer on my head I stopped wearing anything completely. I was just ready to be done and didn't care that my head looked like a fuzzy peach!
-
My nose stopped dripping. Yea! And my toes and finger nails finally grew back.
-
kcat2013, thanks for your response. The other issue is that my hair is coming in all white! So, you can't see what little hair that I do have coming in. Did you dye yours? At what time?
-
steph - I stopped wearing anything on my head at 13 weeks, and my hair was totally gray. I colored it when it was about 3/4 of an inch long, but didn't return to highlighting it until it was a bit longer.
-
Thanks for the info, SpecialK (and for all the other amazing information you post for everyone on this site. I have learned so much from you and am so grateful for your contribution at BCO. You are a gem.)
-
Yep, quite a bit of it was white, but my normal color is blonde so the white kind of blended with the blonde so I didn't color mine.
-
Funny - I'm the only one I know who did the opposite. Hair was mostly grey before chemo loss and it came back mostly brown. It doesn't have as much wave as it used to, but is plenty thick.
And yes, I'd forgotten about the darn drippy nose!!!
-
steph - aww, thanks! So glad to be of help!
-
special k.....when you colored your hair, did you go organic? If so, what product did you use and how did it work? I am out about 14 weeks PFC, with 1 inch hair sticking out everywhere, gray and white. So over the wigs, but right now not a good look.

2yorkies - my hair color situation prior to treatment was coloring my roots monthly in a cooler brown, and highlighting about every third month, lowlighting with the root color maybe twice yearly. I do this at a salon and use their standard color products. When I finally had enough all gray hair to color - probably about where yours is now, my hairdresser just colored it with the brown root color she normally used. She said I would look like a cheetah if we tried to highlight it, so it was all brown for a bit - hated it, but it was better than gray. I was so anxious to cover the gray I wasn't concerned with whether the productwas organic. I continue to color my hair the same way as I did prior to treatment, but have checked on the EWG Skin Deep database and my color products are scored at 2, which is pretty innocuous. I think some people have used organic products, and there are definitely some salons that use them exclusively. I have been careful with cosmetics and household cleaning products and try to use safer products.

Thanks for the info on the EWG skin deep database. I have read many threads and you always seem to have pertinent, accurate information. I am sorry about why you have become so knowledgeable. I also have changed my cleaning products to seventh generation and Mrs. Myers. Who knew my tide and febreeze were so toxic!!! Thanks again for your help!
-
2yorkies - the silver lining in my breast cancer cloud is using my experience to help others - if I could do that for you, it makes me happy! You can also use baking soda, salt, lemon and vinegar in different ways for cleaning! I love the Mrs. Meyers multi surface spray, especially the lemon verbena one - I use it daily!
