waiting on biopsy results, Dr. is sure it's cancer
I have a large lump in my right breast. Friday, I had an mri and sonogram. I consulted with doctor, who feelscertain it's cancer. Lump is huge and jagged, and it looks evil. I had a lump biopsy and a biopsy on a swollen lymph gland. Biopsy results should be in tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm scared, and have had panic attacks. I've probably slept 4 hours since Friday. With every ache or twinge, I imagine it is spreading cancer. My stomach is in knots and I can barely eat. My husband means well, but he is treating me like I'm dying. How do you cope? Do you take anything for anxiety? I just don't see how I can make it through this. BTW, I have learned so much from this website, it's been a true blessing.

Pangie: I feel for you. This is a very anxious time, I remember being thrown into a whirlwind of thoughts and stress. I really hope you doc is wrong, and your biopsy comes back benign.
This is the worst time, and if you are diagnosed (dx) you will feel better once you have more information, about the exact details and your treatment plan.
Of course it's very frightening for you and your husband. Try not to worry about what you do not know for sure. That's so hard I know, but it's true at all stages of this disease. My tips for helping your anxiety is tokeep off the Internet and Dr Google, as the is a lot out there which is very frightened and misleading. It can be useful if you have something specific to research, and you can recognise valid and trusted sources. Also, fresh air is a great thing to try and banish anxiety, so go for a walk outside. Disatraction is what you need now too - watch movies, Netflix etc.Do not panic by the hour as BC is a long game and if you are DX then you will see that there is time to breathe and assess what needs to be done.
Let us know how's you get on, and I will be thinking of you.

Pangle...so sorry you have to be here but welcome. I know you will find this forum both informative and comforting. We all know how you feel right now and are here to support you. I promise you will feel better once you have all the facts and a plan. The waiting is torture. Don't be afraid to ask doc for something to help calm you down during this period. Try to keep busy and surround yourself with those who make you happy. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Thanks for your kind and wise replies. I'm keeping busy at work today, so that helps somewhat. Nights are the worst.

I'm so sorry you're here and in limbo. I had a similar situation - the radiologist told me it was cancer but I had to wait for the biopsy to get definitive results. I spent those days doing whatever I could to distract myself which meant binge watching Parks and Rec on Netflix and going on long walks. I agree with what Scwilly said, stay off Google especially at night. I need to be better about heeding my own advice on that one, but I am working on it.
It is also important that you know that if it is cancer, there will continue to be waiting (waiting for the full pathology report, waiting to meet with doctors, etc.). I say this not to let you get discouraged but to prepare you. I had the idea in my head that once I knew it was cancer for sure things would be easier but in reality it has been more waiting. Just to prepare you. I have heard from a lot of wonderful ladies on this site that it does get better once you have all of your results in and you can start on a treatment plan. Until then, finding a way to distract yourself is the only thing I can suggest. My fingers are crossed for you that it is nothing and you get to move past this and feel an awesome sense of relief.

don't be afraid or ashamed to talk to your doctor about your anxiety. Took me a while but I did and she put me on a mild anti-depressant and gave me something for panic attacks and to take at night to help me sleep. Best thing I ever did! I wish I'd talked to her sooner. I remember that time and I thought it would never end but, believe me, it does get better. I hope the best for your results. Be well

Doctor office called and said the biopsy results should be in tomorrow. I have an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday. The office scheduled me for baseline scans at that time also. At least, they move fast. Reading all of your stories, it's amazing all the crap that is thrown our way. Your perseverance is inspiring. I will call tomorrow and ask for some meds for anxiety.

Thoughts of calm and peace are with you. Crazy times in our life. I too have allowed work to allow for distractions from this new life.
