Her2+ Vaccine Trial at University of Washington

Has anyone done this study in the past? They are currently enrolling her2+ stage IV patients who have been treated to NED or stable bone only disease. I've made it through the waitlist and would love to hear from anyone who has participated in the past. It sounds like they're pairing the vaccine with a psk tea that you'll have to drink twice a day for four months. Thanks for any info

Yes I have and talked to my oncologist about it. He said it is very exciting but not for me. He is at Swedish in Seattle and I believe he told me he had or has a patient that was in the study.

I did the trial last year. Awesome experience! I do believe it was completely successful.

My immune system went into overdrive. I never had allergic responses before the vaccine injections. I now have immune responses to bees, crab, pollens, and I sincerely hope the cancer cells. (I am a beekeeper, so that is a slight problem.)

From what I understood, the her2+ vaccine has been proven to work. The psk tea is to enhance the response. The tea is not too bad at all. Kind of mushroom and garden dirt taste, LOL.

If you qualify, do it! The team is fantastic. And the chance to have your own body attack the cancer cells is not to shabby either!

Thank you very much Scuttlers for letting us know how that went. I was wondering if it was a new vaccine or just a new twist on the existing treatment.

I did the vaccine + tea trial 2 years ago. I believe they've used the vaccine for many years and paired it with a few different things--this time it's mushroom tea. The nice thing is that everyone gets the vaccine and people at UW were super nice. The tea is the randomized part so you may or may not get turkey tail tea--the stuff I had tasted like dirt too but who's to say what it was. It appears the vaccine helps keep us alive so seems like little risk for a possible boost in survival.

I had no side effects at all. It was relatively easy and I'm going on 3 years NED now. I agree, do it if you can get in.

I, too, participate in the trial; the vaccine and mushroom tea. That was was in the summer of 2015. I have now been NED since August 2012. My oncologist encouraged me to participate. I found the trial on my own. The team at Seattle are top notch.

Thanks everyone! I started the trial last month and got my first vaccine. The vaccine itself was easy and the tea is not bad. I did have a major breakout on my skin after sitting in a hot tub a couple weeks after the vaccine. Who knows if it was related but if it was a boosted immune response maybe that's a good thing. I go back in March for my second vaccine injection and the staff does seem grea. I'll keep everyone updated on how it goes.

Thank you for this thread, josalive. I look forward to hearing about your experience with this trial. I will investigate it further to see if I could qualify at some point, as I'm finishing chemo with a good response, but not necessarily NED.
