Recliner - how long did you stay in it?
Curious - if you have a recliner and stayed in that rather than in your bed, how long did you stay in it? I have two recliners and considering moving one into my bedroom so I can rest without my family having to be super quiet.

I had UMX on left, I slept in it for 10 days. When my drains came out I went to my bed, only problem is I sleep on my left and not able to sleep on that side just yet. SO back and right side.

i had BMX without recon last Feb (2016). I did not use a recliner at all. I did put a foam rubber wedge under me, to keep my head & chest elevated (recommended by my PS, to promote healing) and a pillow under my knees and one under each arm, like an arm rest. I slept in my "nest" for a long while, because I had a lot of tissue necrosis and wound healing issues. I wasn't allowed to sleep on my side or stomach for 16 weeks~! That wedge got a workout.

I also did not use a recliner. My surgeries were easy umx and later diep.

I moved a recliner to the bedroom and was glad I did because I ended sleeping in it for weeks after surgery (or at least part of the night in it--would often start off in bed and then move to the recliner in the middle of the night).

I was unable to use my recliner after surgery, I didn't have enough strength to open and close it. I wasn't very comfortable in it anyway. If you want to use a recliner, it needs to be one that operates easily.
I did the nesting in the bed with lots of pillows. Wedge pillows are great. I took up the entire bed. My husband slept in the spare room for quite awhile. At times I really needed to spread out to be comfortable, especially my arms. I had to open my arms wide and spread them from one side of the bed to the other. It was a weird urge, but I thought maybe it had something to do with blood for or healing.

I have slept in my recliner after several surgeries (if you ever have a hernia, a recliner is a good place to sleep after that surgery too). I like the recliner because once I was arranged with pillows and whatnot, I couldn't accidentally roll over in my sleep and tweak/twinge/hurt anything. Knowing that made it easier for me to relax and fall asleep. Plus, for me, it was a lot more comfortable the lying flat. I slept in the recliner for several weeks post surgery.

I've slept in a recliner for about 10 years now. I have trouble with lower back pain if I sleep on my back in a bed which is my favorite position.

Hi everyone. I didn't have a recliner following my BMX with reconstruction but I wish I had. I couldn't sleep in my bed for over 6 weeks. Slept on the sofa with a lot of pillows behind my neck. Hope that helps!

I don't see how anyone could comfortably sleep in a recliner! Period!
I did have to sleep (as best I could) for several nights in a recliner when Hubby was electrocuted (March 2000) while working on a live 440 line in the local hospital - thankfully he was in the hospital. They could not give him enough drugs to keep him knocked out - he even broke some of the restraints they had on him. He would calm down when I talked to him so I spent several days and nights in a recliner in ICU.
Actually, I've never sat in a recliner I thought was comfortable - ever. I can not sleep on my back without horrendous nightmares so I never do. I always sleep on either side or stomach. Hubby does have his recliner but I lay on the couch to relax at night. So, after UMX, I'd just lay on the couch, usually fell asleep before Hubby went to bed so he'd just leave me there when he went to bed. I'd wake up 'whenever' and then go to bed.
After my 3 detached retinas, I had to stay and sleep on one side only so I sleep on the couch with my back against the back of the couch so I couldn't accidentally roll to other side.

I slep in mine for two weeks. The first 10 days were because I was more comfortable... And the last couple were because it was warmer in our living room than our bedroom and shivering hurt like heck. :-

I was in it until my drains came out (7 days for me), then moved back to the bedroom and used a wedge pillow with a big U shaped body pillow going around me to keep me on my back.
Probably could have more easily stayed on the reclining couch end for another week, but I was sick of sleeping out there.

Thanks for all your insights. Sounds like most people felt it was helpful so I am going to try it!
