Pregnant, large breast lump, pain, and bloody nipple discharge
Hi ladies,
First of all I am very thankful to the ladies of this community. I've been reading for a few days now and have learned quite a bit. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to share their experiences with those of us who are new to all of this and scared.
I am 30 years old and 17 weeks pregnant with my second child. About eight months ago I found a very large lump in my left breast. I had an OB appointment scheduled anyway a few days later and my OB referred me to a Breast Health Center for an ultrasound. The tech told me she saw normal breast tissue and that I probably just had fibrocystic breasts. The radiologist confirmed. After that I noticed that that the lump would grow and shrink with my cycle and I didn't think much of it. I also noticed discharge with a brown tinge on the inside of my bra from time to time. Since getting pregnant, the existing lump has become quite a bit larger and has been tender and painful at times (but not consistently). The other day I took off my bra and noticed blood-tinged discharge on the inside. I called my OB and (via her medical assistant) she recommended another breast ultrasound. The ultrasound is scheduled for the 3rd. In the meantime, I am concerned because everything I am reading says that bloody discharge from one nipple + lump = bad news. I also realize I may have been having bloody discharge for some time without realizing it.
For anyone who has gone through this, I am wondering if anyone has experienced bloody discharge with fibrocystic breasts. A lot of what I've read says that while discharge with fibrocystic breasts is normal, it isn't normal if it's bloody. I'm also wondering if anyone has experience with similar symptoms and pregnancy. There isn't a lot online about pregnancy and nipple discharge and a large lump all together. And, if anyone has any words of wisdom to stay sane when I'm freaking out, I would really appreciate it.
Oh, and for a little background, all of the women on my mom's side of the family have been diagnosed with breast cancer over the years, although they all were diagnosted post-menopause.

I hope it's nothing. Although I don't have bloody smdichrgr, I am 32 weeks pregnant and discovered a lump in my breast this week. I have had breast cancer before and had a Mastectomy and this lump is right above my original cancer. I had n ultrasound today followed by a biopsy tmo. Maybe they could do another ultrasound or mammogram? Be persistent for sure.

Thanks @SKD, I hope yours is nothing as well. They will be doing an ultrasound. Should I push for a mammogram as well? Last time they felt very confident that the ultrasound showed no issues and didn't do a mammogram. But reading some stories here it sounds like an ultrasound alone can miss potential cancer
-
I'm not sure you can do a mamogram while pragnant but if they suspect anything at all, they will do a biopsy.

Hi all,
I wanted to come back and provide an update since I so appreciate everyone who commented and I wanted to close the loop in case anyone found this thread down the road and wanted to know how things turned out. I went in for my ultrasound today and they found two masses. They followed up with a mammogram and the radiologist said she is almost positive it is cancer. I am having a biopsy tomorrow to confirm, but based on what she saw she went so far as to say if the biopsy came back negative she would question those findings.
So, thank you to everyone who provided support here. It looks like I will likely be moving over to the "diagnosed" section.

hi skichick.
I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes fat narcosis looks like cancer as well so let's hope it's that.
I found out I have a reoccurance of IDC.

I'm so sorry to hear that SKD.

Hi everyone, just to provide a final update, I received the official diagnosis today that it is breast cancer. Thank you everyone for your support.

do you know what kind? Grade? What's going to happen with baby
-
Hi SKD,
I don't know the kind yet, but it is grade 3. I am fortunate to live outside of Denver where the University of Colorado is one of 17 centers in the nation with expertise in treating pregnant women with BC. I have a meeting with a bunch of doctors there on the 17th. I am also waiting on an appointment with a high-risk OB hopefully next week. My understanding is they can do chemo during pregnancy after the 1st trimester so my guess is that will be the first step. Although BC during pregnancy seems crazy, every medical professional I've talked to has known at least one pregnant patient who has gone through this with positive outcomes for mom and baby, so that helps a lot

I'm sorry to hear this, SkiChick. It's not surprising that it's Grade 3; pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) is typically aggressive or fast-growing. The University of Colorado is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and that's the best rating that a cancer center can have.
All the best.
