I found a lump in my areola. Ultrasound showed sebaceous cyst (the tech told me) but I'm going back to the doctor to follow up regarding why they think that, what the u/s showed, etc. Would you request a biopsy? How do they know for sure it's a cyst?

Why don't you post this question in your original thread where other members can understand in context going on with you?

Cysts have very characteristic appearances on ultrasound. Also, they would be able to tell by the depth, since the sebaceous cyst is subcutaneous and not in your breast tissue. What you were told sounds entirely consistent with your description of what is going on.

alone - I would not request anything right now. Wait until you talk to your doctor. He/she can show you on the ULS where the cyst is. The doc will be able to tell you why they believe it's a cyst and recommend any further action - or not. Try not to focus on this until you meet with your doc. I know you've posted on a different thread before your ULS, but try not to borrow trouble since the current diagnosis appears to be a cyst. Let us know after you meet with your doc.
