Hey Guys

I was dx in dec 2016 - before my surgery I had a torso CT and a bone study. I am wondering why no one ordered a brain MRI - is this usual? I understand that br ca mets can go to the brain?

Thanks

I don't think a brain MRI would be done unless you have symptoms.

The brain MRI I had was about a year after TX. It was done because of a specific 'problem' that developed to rule out a possible met - it did. I developed a horrendous pain around and behind my right eye that developed within hours (headaches are not problem I've ever had to deal with). Nothing would dull the pain at all, including oxy. Did some research and found that dexamethasone could in some cases ease pain (had some left from Chemo) so tried one and pain was gone. I definitely do NOT suggest that anyone ever try doing this but I knew that my PA was going to be Staff at the Women Veterans Retreat that weekend. So there was a reason to do an MRI - not just a 'routine scan'. Nothing showed up (apparently a nerve had become 'irritated' and the Dex allowed it to 'calm down') - that was 7 yrs ago and still no problems since.

So - at least with my Drs - they do not order Scans/tests just to order them but IF there is a possible known reason to check something out - they will immediately.

Not standard unless there's a specific concern.
