Did you choose unilateral Mastectomy or bilateral?

trying to decide, would consider bilateral mostly in hopes of achieving better symmetry during reconstruction as I understand it doesn't have much if any affect on your prognosis to remove the non cancerous breast. But then again also need to consider the addedrisk of complications in doing that...

Would love to hear how you ladies made your decision and why...

    Thanks!

9lives - I chose BMX since I had very dense breasts. And because I wanted the symmetry and I didn't want to worry about it later. Good thing I did because they found cells in the other breast that wasn't the original target. I've read many stories here from ladies who had the same experience.

I don't think the recovery is much different from one to two. But of course you don't have any sexual stimulation possible from your breasts once they're both gone. Good luck with your choice.

    hi.

Of course there is no right or wrong answer. I chose umx because I didn't what to make a decision because I was afraid. And I was afraid.

While I had a bmx scheduled, I did only a umx because I didn't want to give up more than I had too.

I read somewhere, "if you had to have an ear removed, would you take off the other for symmetry?"

Although you obsess over symmetry before and in the beginning, it is not something you worry about long term.

Now having said that, I hold my breath during every mammogram. If I'd had a bmx I wouldn't have done recon at all, instead I'm doing a very slow replacement with fat grafting only. Hope to finish in just one more procedure.

    Best of luck to you
