Holistic/Homeopathic recomm with Chemo?

Options

I had stage 3 breast tumor ILC but due to 6.7 cm tumor size and lymph node indicators, chemo and radiation have been recommended. I've undergone 2 rounds of chemo and feel like natural/holistic/Homeopathic regimens can help w symptoms and assist in full recovery yet I am getting very little info from my oncologist on this topic. I also have lyme disease diagnosed 2 wks after the cancer yet oncologist isn't interested in anything relating to how chemo will impact my whole body with such a systemic condition. Instead...push thru w chemo. Any recommendations from people who have had both?

Hello Pinkwarriorshirl, and welcome to Breastcancer.org. We are really sorry for what you are going through! Are you being treated for the lyme disease with antibiotics?

Pink, I did not have Lyme, but I did have the same DX as you.

One thing that did help me during chemo, and with my onc's blessing, was pro-biotics. They help against thrush and intestinal issues.

Another thing was to eat on a schedule. So even if I didn't have an appetite, I sat down and ate something. Keeping regular meal times helped me keep decent nutrition.

Exercise. In Danish cancer wards they have organized exercise programs for the patients. There is research to support that it helps against the fatigue of chemo. I used to go for a walk in the morning, before the fatigue set in.

Be careful about taking a bunch of supplements right now. Some of them can interfere with the chemo doing its job.

Hello, Pink. In your situation I would want to know that my lyme disease doctor had consulted with my medical oncologist. Just a phone call to make sure they are on the same page. And especially in a case with co-morbidities I advocate getting an opinion from a university or NCI-designated (National Cancer Institute) hospital (or equivalent if outside the United States).
