edited December 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

hi this is my first post,

I am aged 24. I have had a lump in my breast for the past 2 months. I went to my gp 2 weeks after the lump appeared they gave me antibiotics to take then return if it's still there in a weeks time. I completed the antibiotics and it was still there no change at all. I go back to my gp after a week and a half. They then examine my breast and send me straight to the hospital they ultrasound scans there is larger black thing that shows up on screen. She's then asks me again how old I am. She then says please wait here I'll get another opinion. He then asks me the same thing my age. He says there is no fluid and it's not a cyst or mastitis. At this point I'm scared and crying he try's to calm me down by saying it's highly unlikely highly cancer because of my age. Then send meback to my ward. They then discharge me with another course of antibiotics And wait for a referral to the breast clinic

    carrying on from the above.

They said it'll be posted within a few weeks.

4 or so weeks later I get a letter to attend an appointment. So I went yesterday.

The lady examined my breast and could see no decrease in size from when I was in hospital last. I told her I finished the course of anti biotics. She then does a needle test in my breast and draws blood (I don't know what the procedure is called) she then sends me to get a ultrasound. The person then doing the ultrasound can see the large black thing on screen and asks again my age. She then checks under my arm pit and there is a lymph nod sorry I don't know the terms. She the. Gets another colleague to look at it. They then send me to do a mammogram and after the mammogram they do a biopsy. This is all in the one day within 3 hours.

After the biopsy the original person then comes back with a senior person and the senior person then explains what they are doing and that they will need to see me again in another week with the results and will see me first thing on Thursday coming. They were talking about my age and that if it is cancer that we (them) will be here to help me through it and talk about treatment.

They also gave me there numbers to call if I have any questions and they will help me through it. They said they are happy my husband was with me when I went in.

The vibes I got in the room where as if they knew something but can't confirm it until the results are back.

I am so scared and emotional I'm younger then what statistics talk about.

    I have 2 young children.

Any advice anything would be great I'm so so scared.

Hi Youngkiwi. While we hate that you're here and worried, we wanted to say welcome to Breastcancer.org. We are so very glad that you reached out for information and support while you wait. We know it's scary, but try to think that many, many biopsies come back being at such young age.

Please, keep us posted. We're thinking of you!

I'm sure if it was terribly upsetting. Try to take some comfort in the fact that having breast cancer at 24 is extremely, extremely uncommon. Hang in there. If anxiety becomes too much, call your doctor and see if they can give you something to get help you over the hump.

    thank you,

I was hoping to come back with good news todaybut I found out today that I have breast cancer and my lympnode or whatever it's called has traces of cancer cells. I meet with an oncologist on the 29th to talk chemotherapy ☹️

This forum will help me through a lot so I'm thanksfull for the page. 🙏🏼

Damn! I am truly sorry for the bad news. I have a 23yo DD who has my 2 gene mutations and who had breast cancer at 24. I would be completely distraught if I found out she had cancer at 23 or 24, as would she.

As my MO said to me, "this year is gonna suck, but you'll make it through. " And she was right. I hope only good things for you as you begin this hard, hard Road. Peace.

    Thanks for your kind words.

I'm just taking everyday as I comes. I think it's sunk it but then again sometimes it feels so unreal. I have my first appointment next Thursday so thinks seem to be moving fast I hope.

    I now know it's her2 positive at stage/grade 3.

I will be on here a lot with questions.

    Xx
