Yams or sweet potatoes with no or low sugar?

I am having some family over on Christmas Eve for my first ever turkey feast. I went online to get a recipe for yams or sweet potatoes but they all seems to have at least 2 cups of sugar (and I have read and believe that sugar is 'food' for cancer). I also am not partial to the recipes with orange juice, should I skip this dish or have any of you got a great recipes I can use?
Thanks in advance!

Being diabetic for over 25 yrs, we have always sweetened with Sugar-Free Syrup and/or Sweet and Low Brown Sugar. Now, Splenda makes a low sugar Brown Sugar. Actually, the potatoes themselves are loaded with natural sugars, so I like them best, baked with butter and cinnamon.

Do you just boil the yams and then add butter and cinnamon to taste?

I simply pierce the sweet potatoes, rub a bit of oil (canola) on the skin, put them on a foiled baking tray and then bake them in the oven at 375 degrees for 60-90 minutes. I check to see if they are done after 60 minues with a knife. It is isn't really soft... back in they go.

I love them simply sliced open after baking with some whipped butter on 'em. Very naturally sweet.

I actually eat them often these days. And the leftovers heat up very well.

Also, hubby made these a few weeks ago. Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Nutmeg and Sour Cream. It is an Emeril Lagasse recipe.

    Yams with Apricot:

1 large can of Yams drained (or you can use fresh yams if you bake longer)
1 Large jar of Polanders "All fruit" Apricot
    1/4 water......mix with Apricot
    1/2 cup pecans ( optional)

Pour all of the Apricot/water mixture over yams .......Coat top of Yams in a glass dish and bake at 350 till done. Apricots will caramelize without added sugar.

(30 min for canned and hour for fresh)

I love making yams with a touch of Splenda, cinnamon, butter, and finely chopped fresh apples. Heaven!

I have an awesome recipe which uses Splenda, SF honey, no carb mix along with pecans. I got it fron Tyler Florence on Food Network, and adapted it for my preferences. It is yummy.

I can post it if you like.
