Waiting for phone call re biopsy results
I had a call back after a screening mammogram, had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on Friday. The radiologist who performed the u/s said he found a "small" mass that was "suspicious" for cancer due to irregular border, and recommended a biopsy. I heard them say it was at the 10 o'clock position. They did a core needle biopsy a couple of hours later and placed a marker, and then a quick mammogram check to ensure proper placement of the marker. Somehow I had the feeling they were preparing me for bad news. I am very anxious. They said they will call me tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday with the results. I doubt I will sleep much tonight.
I am feeling pretty stupid because it had been five years since my last mammogram. I certainly knew better. But for some reason, I kept putting it off. You'd think I would really be on top of things since my husband died of brain cancer 7 years ago. Maybe I was just afraid to go there.
Because I was so stressed at the time of the conversation with the radiologist, I can't really remember many details. Thanks for your support!

Hi Siciliana and welcome. Waiting on test results is the worst time, you have done all you can for the time being. I can only suggest you try and distract yourself as much as possible, and stay away from Dr Google, easier said than done I know
I'm so sorry about the loss of your husband, that must have been very difficult for you. Don't beat yourself up over missing past mammograms, it is done now. Something like 80% of lumps are not cancer, something positive to hold onto.
I hope you hear good news, and soon.

good advice about staying away from Dr. Google. But do check out the information on the Main BCO site regarding diagnosis and understanding your pathology report, then you will be more prepared when they call back. Even if this is Cancer, it's most likely just going to be a small bump in the road for you. There are excellent treatments available

Thanks so much for the support and encouragement! It really does help.

Small is good, Siciliana, whatever the lump turns out to be. Sjacobs is right; if it does turn out to cancer, just remember that breast cancer is very treatable these days. ((Hugs))

Thank you, Elaine! I've only been on this board for a few hours and already feel like I've made friends.

While I was at a counseling session with my therapist, I got the call from my PCP and they told me the news was not good and I need to come in to talk. I am grateful that I was with my therapist when that call came in. I will know more after my appointment today at 2:00.

Oh, Siciliana! I'm so sorry. Can someone go the appointment with you? At the very least, the doctors should be able to tell you what kind of cancer you have (80% of us have invasive ductal carcinoma).
((Hugs))

Thanks, Elaine. Yes, a friend will be going with me. I know I won't be really hearing much of what is said. I will be sure to ask for the pathology report. Of course I was hoping the news would be different, but I kind of knew instinctively that it would not be. I am so glad I found this group for support!

My heart breaks for you
. I am 26 and going in today for an issue I have been having for over a year. I have been avoiding it because I don't want to possibly have surgery. Never have had it,never want to. I feel pretty ashamed I haven't been in sooner. Best thing you can do at this point is just wish for the best and stay positive. I am a firm believer that negative thoughts can make matters worse.
