Got the news on Monday. Annual mammogram showed a small spot. Additional views, ultrasound and biopsy. Results say 5mm IDC. FISH not back yet. Triple negative. Surgeon sceduled for Jan 5. My daughter was triple positive at age31 in 2010. She is doing OK, made it 5 years NED.

I am afraid because they say triple negative is not treatable and comes back. Anyone with experience would be great. I was her caregiver as she is single. She was BRAC negative. How did this happen to me too?

    Dear Lucy,

We are very sorry that you too find yourself here! Has your family, in general, had genetic testing (including you)? You may find this section helpful on genetic testing (Genetics). There are many different ways to approach treatment of a Triple Negative cancer, and you also may find reading this to be helpful, as you navigate your options (Triple Negative Treatment). Do you have any additional support other than your daughter (e.g. friends, neighbors, work colleagues)? We are so happy to hear that your daughter is past 5 years. That is really great to hear. You are not alone0 there are many folks with triple negative, and so much that you can learn from the other posters here. We're thinking of you !

Thank you for the reply. I have a few colleagues at work who have taken the journey but I know each cancer is different. I called one this morning and she told me not to worry that 5mm is small and my surgeon is the best! I read the triple negative treatment but would like to hear from folks who have been around awhile to give me some hope.

Totally understand. Read around the forum, and definitely, you should hear from others.

Lucy - since your FISH isn't back yet, there's still the possibility you will be HER2 positive. If so, many docs will do neo-adjuvant chemo with Herceptin & Perjeta. I was ER/PR negative but HER2+ so I started with TCHP. While I didn't have a complete response, the tumor shrank significantly before surgery. Sorry you had to join us, but welcome.
