Cells travel even in DCIS?
"Even before tumors develop, breast cancer cells with a few defined molecular alterations can spread to organs, remain quiet for long periods of time, and then awaken to form aggressive, deadly breast cancer metastasis. These are the findings from a study led by researchers at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the University […]"
The above is part of an article I read. Anyone hear of this? Thoughts....

We had an interesting discussion about this topic on this thread: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/105/topics/812929?page=53#post_4867125. It's a long thread but the article you read comes up at p 52 or 53.

I am such a supporter of the progression of science and wonder it all that is being done to research this disease and to find better treatments and ideas on how to prevent and cure this disease. Its small steps like this that lead to better treatments.
I have just been dx in Nov with mets to my liver. My new DX is ER+ and the big bad wolf of my original DX was IBC and TN. So has it come back and changed or is this from the DCIS I had in Feb 2015 - which had no invasive components, were there some breast cells wondering around my body just waiting until they decided to go bad like other had done already for me. Who knows, and I don't dwell on this.
I am now feeling healthy and optimistic, the treatment I am on seems to have helped - though I wont know until I have scans in a month or two. But I have a chance of a long life, and I want to enjoy it. I would advise not to over worry about what might or might not happen, enough has happened already. However we are all different and I understand we all deal with the reality of this DX in our own ways.
I wish everyone a long and happy life free of disease and worry.

Thank you for sharing this. I have read of cases where breast cancer metastasized in patients previously diagnosed and treated for DCIS. This explains a lot. It is sobering to think these dormant cells are not likely to be influenced by Tamoxifen. All I can think to do to improve my odds is to maintain the most healthy lifestyle possible.
Peace and healing,
Nanc
