edited December 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

44, no history of BC...had expressed discharge in May 2016. Mentioned this to OB, they did a diagnostic mammogram...nothing seen. Radiologist thought a ductogram was in order. Ductogram showed a filing in a duct, pretty far back from nipple, over 4cm back, very small filing.

Saw breast surgeon, who could not express any discharge, hence an ultrasound. Using the ductogram as a guide, the ultrasound was not able to pick anything up. Decided to take a wait and see approach. 5 months later, still no spontaneous discharge, but expressed discharge was back. Had a ductogram, with blue dye inserted, and the excision immediately following.

Now waiting on results and very anxious. Hoping for a benign papilloma...but with it being so far back in the duct, I am nervous. Any rhyme or reason to how long it takes for pathology to come back

My experience with pathology results is that it depends on how busy the lab is. I've had a smaller local lab some back quickly and a much larger treatment center associated lab come back after many days, mainly because of volume. Did they give you any idea of how long it would be? I know waiting is extremely hard. Hang in there and let us know what you hear!

    Hi Elizespo237,

I'm currently in a wait and see position as well. I went in last Wednesday to have a single dilated duct removed. While in surgery the doctor decided to go from a single duct to a major duct excision. We were originally told the surgery would take approximately 45 minutes however I was in there for an 1 1/2 hours. We were also told that he asked a second surgeon to assist during the surgery. All of this is making me very nervous.... crossing my fingers that both of us receive good news next week. :)
