I think it is highly variable - I didn't have many until about 4 weeks in. I am at the 2 year mark, and my side effects are constantly changing. Good luck.

I have been taking Tamoxifen for almost 2 years, and the only SE I have is the occasional hot flash. The majority of folks who take it have little to no SEs

Just finished my first bottle - 90 days. No noticeable side effects now. Did notice an increase in hot flashes at first but that has already dropped back to my normal. Easiest part of my treatment plan so far by far! Good luck.

I had taken the pill for about three weeks. So far did not notice big SE. Though a little big increase of discharge notices and occasional hot flash.

I was wondering if we have more SE symptom, does that indicate the medicine is more effective?

If I remember correctly, mine kicked in around the 8-9 month mark.

Sjacobs146...I'm so happy you are doing well on anti hormone treatment. However I have to disagree with your statement that most people have little or no SEs. The fact is that only 50 percent of us complete the 5 years due to SEs. When you add those who stay on it with SE"s from mild to severe, that's a big number. I'm not saying don't take it. I'm just saying we all need to make our own informed decisions. I worry if the SEs are underplayed then better treatment options will not be available in the future. Good luck to all navigating this disease.

I just took my 25th Tamoxifen pill. 1800 more or 3625 if I have to go 10 years. I take a lot of supplements too and avoid refined carbs, sugar (except from fruit), processed foods. So far, so good. Just had a couple of minor muscle cramps but daily magnesium and occasional potassium supplement helped. It's hard to tell if my occasional fatigue is from tamoxifen or just doing too much

I started 2 months post op and have been taking it for about 6 weeks. My side effects are insomnia, moodiness, exhaustion and now nausea. I'm not sure if the nausea is from the Tomoxifen, or if I'm getting a flu. I take effexor which was prescribed for hot flashes and depression. I haven't had any hot flashes so far. I will continue to take it, though I don't feel great. I like to think that I'm taking something that will help prevent the cancer from coming back. The benefits outweigh the side effects for me.
