LB you need to blow those niggly naggy voices out of your head and I can assure you that you are in very good company because I know a lot of fabulous instructors who second guess themselves, for instance one of the girls who did the RPM training this weekend posted how scared she was this is a girl who is an aerialist spins up in the air on ropes, is a burlesque performer and pole dances in roller skates. My gosh Ruth that is COLD, good on you for braving the elements to keep up with your exercise classes.
Tonight I went to Body Combat, OMG I thought I was going to pass out, i haven't done much cardio lately and tonight proved that the old saying "if you don't use it you lose it' is true -
Thanks Ruth & Cheryl. This is old low self esteem stuff that still gets in the way after all these years living on earth. Going through bc tx and then walking through my husbands throat cancer straight afterwards, has made me realize there really is nothing to lose by going for it. I am consciously deciding not to listen any longer - dumping that crap critical inner voice. KB870, excellent on the swimming and hope today with chemo is uneventful and you are back feeling better quick.
Have DH working from home. I need to wrap-up the yoga Barbies and send to little girl family members along with other gifts and get the Christmas cards in the post. Down day for exercise, much to get accomplished and my hip flexors are grateful for the break.
-
Ruth, stay warm and safe!! That is brutally cold weather. We are due for snow and cold on Saturday, 10 degrees with windchill of 11 below!!! I walk with my gf every Saturday morning before synagogue, but I doubt she will want to walk. I'll probably give it a try, put on long johns, snow pants boots and heavy down coat. I can always turn around if it proves to be too cold.
These last days at work before winter break are absolutely crazy at work...more and more is being piled on!! My teammate and I are stretched way too thin. We are short one person who is on medical leave till after winter break!! Counting the days....including today, 6 more days of work....and then I'm off!! Off work for 2 weeks and off to see my daughter!!
All of you that do these amazing exercise programs...you are so much more dedicated than me....Walking is my exercise of choice and I do manage to get my steps in, but it doesn't strengthen the core etc.
Lilac...we are our hardest critics...I know that I'm very hard on myself...IT seems the older I get the harder it becomes!! Oh well...it is what it is....but you are doing great.
Time to leave for work. Going to be a long day as I have a volunteer engagement after work from 4:30 to 7:00. It is not close to my house so I won't get home till after 7:30.
Have a great Tuesday. Karen
-
Went to the post office to mail out my Christmas cards and to buy stamps.
-
hi everyone. I have been offline since early November. I had lots of pages to skim through. Welcome to newer people. This thread is amazing!
Life has been crazy between cleaning out my MIL's house which sold Thanksgiving week (Karen-I feel your pain; it seemed never ending) and working really long hours at work getting ready for our national accreditation visit. We had our visit last week so life will settle down now.
In spite of all that; I am still eating 100% clean and have been doing spin, Zumba, and water fitness classes. I am down 28 pounds since Labor Day and have managed to stay healthy through all sorts of sickness going through my school. I am feeling great!
Where is Nats Fan?I tried on my "Sculpted Sisterhood" shirt today and it fit for the first time ever. What a great feeling...
-
Ginger, that is awesome!
Nats is getting ready to retire in January, so I assuming that she is swamped!
Lilac, the cancer thing has made me a lot more willing to try new things too, and not really care what anyone else thinks about it! If it works out, good. If it doesn't, at least I've tried. (By the way, being a teacher myself, I know what dedication it takes. So, you, for sure, should be extremely proud of yourself!).
I went to yoga tonight. It is so cold & the roads are so crummy that it is hard to keep up the enthusiasm. I am sure glad that Santa put an autostart in my car last Christmas. I can start it from 'my' classroom.
Karen, there are some great free utube videos if you want to add a little core work to the walking. From 5 minutes up.....I have started doing a 5 minute 'batwing arms' every other day.......haven't done it long enough to see if it will actually help or not.
-
Long day today. Work was crazy busy...I went non-stop from 8 - 4 except for a 10 minutes break. I had to test a student at one school this morning then went to my regular Tuesday assignment. Met with a student who I have IEP minutes then 2 staffings that went from 11 - 12:45 and then 1 - 4!!! So not my favorite thing to do. Then after work I was doing a volunteer event at a fundraiser...it took me 65 minutes to get there from work, but thank goodness it was only 30 minutes home. I am spent....at dinner after 8pm, tortilla chips with melted cheese and avocado. From looking a my work schedule, it is going to be crazy busy till winter break...on overload!!! To many things to do and not enough time...getting pulled in so many directions...
I went through all the clothes I took from Mom's apt....unbelievable how much there is and I barely made a dent in her closet. Since there is so much, I wanted a count for the tax deductible receipt....Over 20 pairs of shoes and sandals, over 40 tops and 30 pairs of pants, 9 skirts and more!!! And she still have a closet full. When I was going through 2 under the bed boxes, I found a bag with a book in it, well one of those with a spiral that you bind yourself...no name or title on the cover...When I opened up the cover, it was my dissertation... The note to my parents saig "first copy of my dissertation, love Karen... That was 26 years ago!!!
Still looking for papers for Mom's move...It is tentatively set for Friday the 23rd. I will be gone, so it will fall on my husband. On Sunday, hubby and I will take some things from the apt to our house that won't fit in the new apt like her desk and she has a beautiful oriental large vase on a stand....I will bring it home so it doesn't get broken in the move. I asked if I could move some things on Sunday and the short answer was no or it would be two rents. Evidentally, the movers will do it all. The community is paying for the move since it is a move to a more ADA accessible apt. Once the date is confirmed I can make arrangements for her cable be changed. I also need to increase the number of hours she has an home health aid with her.
No walk this evening as I was too tired by the time I got home. I broke 10K but not sure how much more I got.
I hope to go to bed early (which means before 11:30) so I best get off and go score the test I gave today.
-
Going to do my usual workout tonight
-
Lilacblue, I agree with Ruth that you should be extremely proud of yourself. If only I could accomplish a fraction of what you've done...
Karen, just with your mom you have enough to do! They call us the sandwich generation, more like club sandwich, if you ask me.
Ginger and Mommy, congrats on the weight loss.
KB, awesome post-treatment therapy.
Hope to do Body Jam tonight. Saturday is Les Mills quarterly launching. May have to start loading up on carbs. Good excuse to have Christmas goodies...
-
Everyday 30 min jogging on the treadmill, 4mile/hour.
20 min. walking outside during lunch break.
Weekend, may try some other type of sports such as play table tennis.
Mile to intermediate sports are good for us.
-
Walking every day. And did 30 minutes on the exercise bike today
-
Congrats Ginger! That is great. I rode a stationery bike and swam 550 yards at the gym today. Need to get some goggles, my eyes were killing me after. They had told me the pool was some new fangled idea with salt water to be easier on your skin and hair. Hmmmmm.. apparently still a good bit of chlorine unless the salt burned my eyes.

Haven't posted for a while, but I have continued to follow everyone's posts! All I can say is wow! Everyone is doing so good with exercising!
I have been working my way back to pre-surgery for the past few weeks. My left prophylactic mastectomy and bilateral tissue expander surgery was on 11/3. I have worked back up to a mile at about 3.4 on the treadmill everyday. I was walking 2+ miles daily at 3.5-3.7 before. I will get back to that!
I go back to work tomorrow and I continue to go for weekly expander fills. Hope l can stick with my walking!

Overslept this morning....still had enough time to get ready, but it put me in a rush and off kilter. I did get my morning walk in. I went to bed early (11pm), well early for me and woke up at 5:20...said 10 more minutes and then it was 6:15!! Started the day out overwhelmed but it got better. A few of us met after work for a beer and to socialize with a intern candidate for next year.
So now its almost 9:30 and I haven't done any of the work work I need to do. If I'm lucky, I'll get an hour in of report writing. Luckily, I have a template so I can copy/paste and search/replace! Well, I made dinner (boiled spaghetti noodles and jar sauce with a salad), cleaned up and went for a walk. Now I'm here while making a noodle kugel for a co-worker who had hip surgery, doubled the recipe so I have one for us for Friday night dinner. I generally don't work Fridays, but I working this Friday to take off the 21st. So I have to be real organized tomorrow night and go to the grocery store and cooking. By the time I get home, I'll only have about an hour till its Shabbat.
My husband travels for work...yesterday he was in the airport waiting for a connecting flight. He said a woman was eyeing him and came up to him and said "today is your lucky day" and gave him $100 for the Oakley store anywhere. She thanked him for supporting Oakley. His glasses frames are Oakley and he has an Oakley backpack (news to me as of today). He was leery about the offer thinking maybe he had to buy something to use it. Nope!! He went into the Oakley store in Charleston, S.C. DH told the guy in the store the story and described the woman and he told DH that she is the regional manager. DH got a new carry-on suitcase and got me a hoodie. both items were on sale 50% off!! It didn't cost DH anything!!
Next week this time I'll be crossing the Atlantic!!
-
Ginger, well done to you, wow, really good pay off to clean eating and mixing it up exercise wise. Logang, good luck on you first day back at work. Kay, salt water pools are sought after by regular swimmers. Karen, enjoy your day of rest and like the story of your DH being handed the $100 gift voucher! Tessu, how is your back feeling? HeidiHill, enjoy the quarterly and I think you would make a super LM instructor. Ruth, that is what it is - go for it and let it go if it's not a fit - thank you for inspiration and support. I too miss Natfan, aka, Mary and see that last posted on October 28th; life off line does keep us busy. I've been called in each day for extra hours due to instructors sickness and hoping to get more cards and MIL presents wrapped and in the post today, and practice #75.
BB tonight.
-
I will email Natsfan tonight & see what's up.
POUND last night & then off to a Christmas Concert.
-
Worked out last night for my full 30 minutes
-
Great to see you Ginger and congratulations. I have been in touch with Nats, she is just taking a break from the boards for a little while, she's still running and crazy busy getting everything completed so she can retire at the end of the year. What a nice surprise Karen. Enjoy the Q Heidi, my recommendation is pace yourself and do half classes unless its Jam and Shbam then dance your pants off, I am booking the next Q in San Diego next week (next credit card statement billing cycle) it's in February.
Last night went to Body Pump - LM & Heidi are the gyms in your countries making a big deal about the 100 launch? It is crazy over here 1-14-17 is everywhere and lots of team teaching.
-
Went to a new to me "Body Care" class at the health club that's a four class cycle of massage and stretching you do to help your blood and lymph flow. Today was legs and feet --- just what I needed
Oh, and I reactivated my membership to keep me motivated
This evening I've gotten upper body "exercise" baking oatmeal raisin cookies (lifting baking sheets in and out of the oven
-
Went to Dance Attack tonight. We are in quite a mess here with my fitness center (it is a LONG story which I will condense into a few words). Last spring the community voted to pass a special tax and build a new community fitness center, which should be done by next fall. The fitness center I go to was supposed to fold into that model when it opened.......however, they have been renting the space we now use from the local college, which just announced that it wants it's building back....... in January (ie TWO WEEKS)!!!! Pretty slimy & everyone is scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. Some of the instructors wanted to stay & sub-contract through the college & the college has nixed that idea too (so much for the idea of community spirit). So everyone scrambling around trying to decide what to do on virtually no notice. There are a couple other fitness centers in town; but we liked what we have had, so it is very frustrating!!!!
-
That is terrible, Ruth. I hope it gets straightened out.
Glad to hear Nats is ok. I just wondered after reading so many pages to catch up. Thanks for the update.
Did water fitness tonight. It was a great class but it is getting really cold here now and was a shock to come back outside after class. Supposed to be well below zero tonight with wind gusts up to 60mph. Just hoping our power stays on..
-
Great walking day today...over 20K steps...I got my morning and night time walks in. Also two 15 minute walks this morning...I had a training and most of the parking right near by is 2 hour limit and the training was 2 hours so that wouldn't work....and I don't want to pay $8 or $10 for a parking lot. I found a half block where the parking is not restricted time wise and free...I love that I get to get in extra walking...its about 15 minutes from the district main office where the training was held.
This morning it was 19 degrees when I walked and now at 10:30 its 48!!! Tomorrow will start out warm and then by noon the temps will start dropping...not sure when the snow will start...Saturday is supposed to be a high of 8!! Only supposed to get a few inches in Denver but the mountains are going to get dumped on.
I don't know how I worked full time for all the years and my kids were little!! When I made this comment a while back, my son said to me, well you were younger and didn't have cancer!! I'm working tomorrow to take next Wednesday off, the last day before winter break. After dinner I went to the grocery store and have been cooking since then. Most of dinner for tomorrow is made plus baking peanut butter chocolate chip cookies to take to my daughter. One more recipe this week-end and her cookie request will be filled. Well, need to go put another pan in the oven.
Sweet dreams...
-
Cheryl, it's every gym, health club and sports facility in the world will launch #BODYPUMP100 at the same time - January 14th. Well, that is except perhaps the franchise clubs I work for who pay through the nose to LM and do nothing for launches, let alone BP100~sigh. Oh Ruth, your poor Y, instructors and of course you. Off to deliver BB 74, covering for an instructor in Folkestone.
-
Got a workout planned for tonight
-
Finally made it back to the gym. . .suffering from the crud, back pain and nerve pain but I'm on the dreadmill and determined to fight back. Tomorrow the pool.
Scottie
-
Scottie: You are one tough cookie. Hope you find relief soon.
Ruth: What a mess! Makes you wonder if the community college had planned that all along.
Karen: I know you can't wait to see your daughter!
Walked yesterday. Today I had my diagnostic mammo. I'm good to go for another year! Been smiling every since I received the call.
-
Hi all, been MIA for awhile. Busy with guests and my son got married Monday. Been trying post a picture but from my phone is not working for some reason even when I transfer them to my laptop. If it ever gets working will post a couple. It was an extraordinary wedding. Both of them have cerebral palsy, use walkers and they danced their first dance together while sitting in their scooters. Not a dry eye in the house!
Meanwhile the pounds are creeping on due to the hit and miss of exercise so hope to get back to it after Christmas.
Glad you are all doing pretty well. Those in the frigid north, stay safe out there. I, on the other hand, will be going to the beach tomorrow for a few days. No, not gloating, well, maybe just a little.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Great news Wonderland! and I would love to see wedding pics, patoo.
Swam for an hour today. Rewarded myself with the hot tub, and then with a beer when I got home. What the heck.
Octogirl
-
Yea, Wonderland!
I hope you can get those pictures over to here, patoo. They are wonderful!
It is bone chilling cold here, but at least we are missing the snowstorm that is hitting Minnesota. I think the high is supposed to be 13 below tomorrow, and the windchill about minus 50. Blah!
I did 45 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes of toning with Denise Austin & am now correcting papers. The life of the working girl .
