Low-grade fever

I finished 3 out of 4 TC treatments. Last week, about mid way through the 3-week cycle, I developed a low-grade fever; went to the doc and have been taking oral antibiotics and controlling fever with Tylenol. I'm sure this occurred due to low immune system and it's hard to totally avoid people with colds these days. I am not sure what the next steps are (calling the doc this am) but afraid this will set back the timing of my final treatment. Has anyone had this experience? how was it resolved?

Sorry, Bumblebea18 to hear about your fever. This does happen, and we would only recommend that you do call your medical oncologist, which sounds like that is what you are doing today. Also, make sure that you are taking good care of yourself. Here are some things to do to reduce your risk of infection: Infection, and breast cancer treatment. Keep us posted!

I got fevers after 3 of my 4 TC treatments. The first time I had a serious infection (sepsis) about 3 days post-chemo and had to be hospitalized for several days. The other two times I ran a fairly high fever, over 102 both times so I knew there was no question of whether or not to go to the ER.  Both times they did a full workup, but did not find any systemic infection. I was, however, somewhat dehydrated both times, so they gave me some IV fluids and an IV antibiotic, just to be safe. After about 8 hrs in the ER, they sent me home to recover.  None of these events caused a delay or interruption in my chemo schedule.

I was also hospitalized for a neutropenic Fever during TC. I got neupogen to help build neutrophils and IV antibiotics. My treatments remained as scheduled, but I got neulasta after that. Fevers always need to be assessed.

Hi Bumble, - I was on AC/T, but I had a low fever, - around 99-100, almost every day, starting around 3 PM. After numerous blood tests and visits with an infectious disease specialist, I was told to be very careful, and go to hosp if it went up to 101 or more. Fortunately it never did, and along with the neulasta, I was able to continue treatments. However, my onc decided to split up the A and C, rather than infuse on same day.

    Sending be well wishes!

Never had any fever during chemo, quite the opposite. Keeping temperature up to close to 'normal' was a fight. During one Taxol infusion, I dropped to 94F even in a glassed in cubicle with the heat up as high as it would go and under several warmed blankets. I still deal with lower than normal temperature and always feel cold.
