Hello All! I had surgery on December 1st. After showering yesterday, I noticed early this morning a very awful smell coming from the bandaged area. I reached out to my doctor whom informed me the bandage had probably gotten wet and to remove it, clean it with soap and water, leave it unbandaged, but be careful of the drainage tube. To say the least, I am scared at what is under the clear cover up and bandage since I have not seen the wound but this smell is too fierce. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi HaveFaith65, We agree with HaveFaith65 about getting it checked. What did you end of doing? Probably best just to be on the safe side with your wound.

Well just being able to smell it made me nauseous and I had been in pain most of the day. I took a shower and got assistance to remove the clear bandage. I washed the area with a cloth and antibacterial soap. The suture strips remained in tact. Fresh gauze pads were put around the tubing area and taped to keep in place. I realized that the hold tape was so tight that it has left a couple of abrasions on my skin. Also, I have discomfort on the opposite from the port and also from having my right lung punctured during the procedure. I had a tube put in my chest the next day after the lumpectomy so that the fluids could be released from my lung that was from the air that got in. The tube came out 5 days after my initial procedure. So it has been a devastating, painful and complicated 10 days.
