Tamoxifen to exemestane? Whose made the switch? How was it?

Seeing my oncologist tomorrow and after 3 months of ovarian suppression I know she's going to suggest I switch. I am so scared...tamoxifen and OS have been okay for me...some joint pain, hot flashes and vaginal dryness but nothing I cannot work with. I am so scared to make another change.

LTF- glad to see you- without going into the whole trip- tried several AI's but had many SE's...even going along with Peggy's(Pontiac)  mantra= expect no SE's and deal with them if they come up...the Teva brand of Arimidex is the best IMHO.  Some joint pain- moving helps and some swelling- again, moving/sweating helps.  Hope things go well for you!!!

I made the switch from Tamoxifen to Arimidex in September. So far so good. I feel so much better on Arimidex than I did on Tamoxifen. My main SEs with Tamoxifen was the horrific joint pain. With Arimidex, I'm a little stiff when I first get moving, but nothing like with the Tamoxifen.

    Good luck!

Thanks, I'm glad to hear it's going well for you!

I actually got the prescription for the Aromasin/exemestanetoday, so I'm going to try it.

My oncologist said to give it a month and if I feel like the side effects are not manageable, I can go back to tamoxifen but it's worth a try for a 2 to 3% reduction reduction of risk of recurrence.

I went from Tamox to Arimidex to Aromasin. Aromasin is fine so far, no problems. Arimidex: ugh. Joint pain, trigger joints, mood swings, weight gain, bloating. Thank god that didn't happen on aromasin.

Just start taking Tamoxifen last week. Notice a slight increase of vaginal discharge. My Dr. right now only prescribe me for one month. I will see how it goes..

Hi, I did 15 months of tamoxifen and stopped 6 months ago due to side effects. I've been off all hormone therapy during that time and feel quite good. I just got a prescription for Aromasin this week, but haven't started it yet. I will come back to this thread and let you know how I do. Blessings to all.

I started it yesterday, it's hard to tell how I feel because I already have a cold, but I can say I woke three times with hot sweats, the sweats from the tamoxifen head pretty well dissipated. Kind of hoping it's just a fever from the cold.
