Hi , I am new here. I had a biopsy done a couple of weeks ago and the Dr. told me that the test shows I am a BIRAD 4 - mildly suspicious for a malignancy. I am seeing a breast surgeon Dec. 14th. I am hoping that "mildly suspicious" means there may be nothing to worry about. I am still concerned though.

Hi Petrified. Sorry you find yourself here. Do you have a copy of your pathology report, or have you been told the results of your biopsy? The Birads-4 was just the rating of the mammogram or ultrasound that prompted the biopsy. I hope it is nothing to worry about too, and greater than 80% of Birads-4 imaging areas do come back benign

Hi Petrified. We know it's scary but, as the Breastcancer.org main site says, breast "changes can be signs of less serious conditions that are not cancerous, such as a fibroadenoma or a cyst." The article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas gives you a list of different benign masses that can be found. Hope this helps. Let us know how everything goes!

I only had the biopsy so far and was told the rating and what it might be. I won't know the pathology report until Dec 14th. I am hoping for the best. Thanks.

I too have just been referred for a biopsy because of calcification. I understand having been diagnosed with breast cancer once they want to be sure. But am wondering if this ever turns out okay.
