Hello!

I just want to say I have found so much comfort in this group! I am scheduled for my lumpectomy on wednesday for a mass 3cm x 1.5 cm. I have had an u/s, mammo (surprise segmental micro calcs caused more panic), biopsies, MRI (two more masses), another u/s, more biopsies and my BS still wants to remove the mass despite benign findings - I think she thinks I have cancer and we haven't found it yet, but I'm sure I'm over thinking it all! It feels stupid to say but this surgery makes me want to cry - I may be a bit of a control freak but I have no family history and I'm 36 - this has taken be by surprise to say the least, and I don't know why, maybe I'm just emotionally done with it all and I feel frozen while my life is happening in a hurried pace (2 boys 10 & 12 with tons of sports). Has anyone here had benign findings x 2 and then had cancer dx after lumpectomy? Another stupid and unsupported thought (my husband doesn't care what I look like) - how much of my breast will be taken, it already looks weird after two rounds of biopsies....albeit I don't walk around naked I just want to know what to expect.....

Whatever your breast looks like after surgery is not how it will look in the end. Give it time, it takes about a year for the fat to shift around and fill in the divots. After my lumpectomy, I was shocked at how misshapen I looked, but a year later I was back to wearing all my old sports bras, swimsuits etc. (no nude modeling though, it doesn't look THAT good ). Best of luck!

    Hi!

I had a lumpectomy as well. I still have cleavage (which i "show off' in my "serious swim suit"). I have a scar on my right breast. but it is not noticeably smaller than my left breast. I had a golf-ball sized amount of tissue removed from my right breast, and that was it. Your pathology report will show whether any cancer was involved. The good news? Your surgeon isn't going to be taking any of your lymph nodes. That's when complications are more likely. As it is now, you shall probably retain a good portion of your breast, and the feeling that comes from having what's your own. Best wishes for a successful surgery!

    P. S. Most of us don't have family history of breast cancer.
