Hello dear friends. Has anybody with pleural effusion survived longer? Statistics demonstrate survival is short. Is it correct? Please answer me.

A LOT more information is needed to answer your question.

Which information? My sister was diagnozed with bc stage 3. Three months after radiotherapy her markers rosed. CT scan showed pleural effusion and lymphoadenopathy. It was drained. She is on chemotherapy and can breathe well. She is young and fighting the disease. She has difficult times but tolerates all.

Sounds like she is doing well. Was cancer found in the fluid that was drained? If not, then she is only having to treat the symptoms and not a recurrence.

Rose you will ne relieved to hear that there are many women who have gone through the same diagnosis and are doing well now with no evidence of disease. It is a very scary time for you all but it is doable. A pleural effusion isn't the worst situation and she is being treated.

I keep posting here to bring this thread into the Active topics so more ladies can see it and respond.

It might be better to repost this on either the Stage IV board or on the one about Recurrence (can’t remember the exact title). Most of the women posting on this forum have DCIS, which doesn’t spread, so wouldn’t be familiar with the OP’s sister’s condition.

Rose, I had a bilateral pleural effusion diagnosed a little over a year ago.  I had catheters implanted so I could drain them.  They were removed when the effusions became what they refer to as spontaneous pleurodesis.  I feel much better this year than last, and am not planning on kicking off tomorrow.
