Seedsally, I would have to look that up, but it seems to me it was a part of an ( essay type speech ? ) that Erma Bombeck wrote when she realized that her cancer would be terminal.

I've always admired what she said that was so touching while being very pragmatic.

Here are a few other things she said:

If I had my life to live over, I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television - and more while watching life.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."

There would have been more "I love you's".. More "I'm sorrys" ...

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute... look at it and really see it ... live it...and never give it back.

I always loved her writings but didn't know about the cancer. I think her quotes that you just posted could be summed up like this: Enjoy life and don't sweat the small stuff.

Jackie, we turned on our heat thanks to a cold "snap." Today it was cold in the morning but warmed up into low 70's. I played golf. This afternoon I have to prepare for leaving early tomorrow for day one of a two day trip to Indiana for Thanksgiving.

Packing clothes is a challenge for me. We also have to take chargers and the daily meds. Etc.

On Friday we'll drive to a nephew's home south of Chicago and stay there a couple of days. With luck and energy, we should return home next Tuesday.

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Bonnets, said prayers for you. Know how you feel. My bc showed on two previous mammos but pcp did nothing and told me all was fine. Two months after last mammo I noticed a large dent in my breast. Then she decided I should have a biopsy and breast surgeon said she saw it was on last two mammos. PCP had decided on a wait and see. I hate when they don't include us in the decision making.

Hope you can enjoy Thanksgiving despite the worry. Keeping you on prayer list.

The art of thanksgiving is thanksliving. It is gratitude in action. It is applying Albert Schweitzer's philosophy: "In gratitude for your own good fortune you must render in return some sacrifice of your life for other life." It is thanking God for the gift of life by living it triumphantly. It is thanking God for your talents and abilities by accepting them as obligations to be invested for the common good.It is thanking God for happiness by striving to make others happy. It is thanking God for beauty by helping to make the world more beautiful. It is thanking God for inspiration by trying to be an inspiration for others. It is thanking God for health and strength by the care and reverence you show your body.It is thanking God for each new day by living it to the fullest. It is adding to your prayers of thanksgiving, acts of thanksliving. -Wilferd A. I hope all of you have a really "wonderful" holiday this Thanksgiving. We will be going to the neighbors and I'm looking forward to it. We really like our neighbors. In fact those on both sides are wonderful people. Kind, considerate, tolerant, and we all share a great love of animals which as we all have some really makes things nice. I have my dishes ready and while I'm basically taking the day off tomorrow --- I do intend to stop in and see my patient and maybe sit with her while she eats her noon-time meal at the "Manor". Later her family will visit. Her son and DIL drove here today from Wisconsin which is where the family began.

I'm thankful for my life and even for my circumstances which are sometimes hard to bear but it almost always has helped me to grow in ways I didn't realize at the time were possible. I'm thankful to be able to live in the woods by a lake and have all kinds of wonderful animals share my yard. I'm thankful for all of you and the time we get to spend together here. It too has been a beautiful aspect of life I would not have known except for having the same disease process of all of you.

I'm thankful for the gift of life and hope I remain worthy of it. Mighty thankful that almost all the time I live on the sunny side of the street.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

I am thankful today for you wonderful ladies who have gone thru the BC process and continue to be here for us newbies. You are a special group to be giving hope and courage to keep your chin up and take one day or hour at a time.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm so thankful you are all here.

I just realized that this is just the 2nd Thanksgiving where we have not been the host. I'm dressed for the arctic tundra, aka my DD's house. Pretty comfortable in my house too.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I am Spending the holiday with my oldest 2 children in Georgia. I flew up to my son in So Carolina last Sat and we drove to Nancy's yesterday. Rob and Anna have ben having a really rough time with their 5 mo old. She slept very little during the day and would scream and cry often. Her whole body arches backwards. She was also spitting up a lot. Anna finally got ok her to the Dr when I agreed that the behavior was not typical. They actually put her on baby Zantac. The change was amazing. The only trouble now is every time she sees her mom- she screams until Mom picks her up. If she doesn't see or hear Mom, she is a very contented baby. I have decided to go back with my son for another week because I enjoy the babies so much. But here at Nancy's I am so relaxed and comfy.

Don't know if I had told you that our washing machine and freezer both died within days of each other, resulting in me getting a new washer, fridge, stove and microwave. The microwave was 16 years old and the stove was older, so I thought I would just do the whole thing at once. Problem is, I had to leave before the stove and microwave were delivered, so they will be a month old before I even see them.

I have travelled so much since Aug, I really have to think when I wake up (before I open my eyes), about where I am. Hopefully when I get home mid-Dec, I'll be able to stay here till April. I will miss one grandson's birthday, but I need some consistency.

Hope you each have a great day

    Anne

Among the humble and great alike, those who achieve success do so not
because fate and circumstance are especially kind to them. Often the
reverse is true. They succeed because they do not whine over
their fate but take whatever has been given to them and
go on to make the most of their best.

I had my second Herceptin infusion on Wednesday, so I was down with the flu like symptoms from that.

Sorry to be so late in wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We went to Birmingham Al, for my birthday and Thanksgiving. Just got back home tonight. Took my Nook , which wasn't working right. So my communicating was limited! Did get a call from my PCP/onc who said the adenexial cyst was a Cyst, which is unusual for an older woman. Am breathing again, see my GYN first week in Dec to decide if they will do anything with the cyst.

Bonnets, I am happy to hear that you are dealing with a cyst which is not cancer.  It must have been stressful.
Happy Birthday to you!  I hope it was a happy trip for you.

I had a quiet Thanksgiving with my DS from Chicago and my grandson who lives in NYC with his girlfriend.  Only 5 of us.
It is amazing how it takes  2-3 days of preparing and less than an hour to enjoy the dinner.  But we had a fun day.

Today (Friday) was also my birthday - I was born on Thanksgiving.  My guys were still here and my DD's ex brought my two granddaughters (9 & 5) over to visit me.  They  made me cards and had cake with me.  I took them to Main Street to the kids boutique to get them shirts.  After they left, I decided I wanted seafood for dinner so DH, my son & I headed out for a great dinner.
I heard from all my kids and grandkids and had a good day.

I am so grateful for the blessings that continuously come my way in life.

I am wishing everyone here the best holiday season to come with peace and good health.

No Black Friday shopping for me....I don't like crowds.  Tomorrow I will begin my online shopping filled in with a few trips to the local outlets.

    Hugs to all!
    Joan

Happy birthday, Joan! And a great big “whew!” for Bonnets.

I skipped Black Friday as well, merely running grocery & sundries shopping errands in my neighborhood. Wanted to go to 900 N. Michigan, but didn’t want to cross any picket lines (two simultaneous demonstrations, sometimes combined). Not going to mention what they were, since this isn’t the thread, but I’m sympathetic to both causes. (Too cold, and I’m too old, to take part). Maybe will make a Chico’s run tomorrow. Need to freshen up some of my costume stuff, as well as replace a few pair of jeans that, alas, have gotten too tight. Darn letrozole & its carb-cravings.

A person's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein,
and will continue to produce their kind.
Just as gardeners cultivate their plots, keeping them free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which they require, so may a person tend the garden of his or her mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts. By pursuing this process, a person sooner or later discovers that he or she is the master-gardener of his or her soul, the director of his or her life. -James Allen

Hope you both had a wonderful time. How great to have a "Thanksgiving" birthday date. No one could ever forget, could they ? It also gives you one more thing to be grateful for as the yrs. go by. Hoping you each have just as many birthdays as you want and that they are always special and filled with love and family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- Jean and Joan.

Happy Belated Birthday Bonnets and Joan. I hope you both enjoyed your special days.

    Great news Bonnet.

I also skipped the crowds on Friday Tried it once a few years ago and never again. Started putting up Christmas decorations today but found out I am missing a whole container of me items. They must still be back in Illinois with a few other boxes we left at my sons house when we moved. I guess I will have to wait until May to get those items unless one of our ds makes a trip down here. We have met some of our neighbors. Our street is almost complete. only 2 more villas to be sold. We will have a Christmas Party just for our street in December. It will be held outside at the end of our street. Seems funny to be partying outside in December. Thanksgiving was our first holiday without our children and grandchildren. It was ok just not the same.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Pause then at this thanksgiving season and give thanks for the miracle
of selfhood. Give thanks for yourself, for your health and strength
and energy. Ponder the miracle of your body, which, without
your conscious thought, controls heartbeat and respiration,
digests food, compounds chemicals, renews cells, combats disease,
heals wounds, and maintains equilibrium among its huge and
    intricate array of separate parts.

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe,"
a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our
thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest--a
kind of optical illusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a
kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and
to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must
be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of
compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of
nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely,
but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of
the liberation and foundation for inner security.
