Necrosis - excision?

I was at the ps today to get my 3rd drain removed. He noticed the skin around the removed nipple is looking a bit red and angry. He said to come in Monday to have the are excised. Has anyone had this? I can't find much info about it.

I had some dead skin excised 2 weeks after my BMX. Since I had it on both sides and am prone to fainting, I had to have general anesthesia again, but if it had been less skin (and I hadn't been a fainter) my PS would have just done it in the office.
