8 years post diagnosis and again panicked after routine test
Hi ladies,
I wanted to share it has been 8 years since my diagnosis and I have lived a wonderful life! I was 36 years young with a 1 year old baby and 9 year old. I had surgery/chemo/rads followed by tamoxifen, which I continue to take daily(10 year plan).
I have been to my oncologist every 3 months because I get a Lupron injection to keep me in menopause.
I alternate between mammo and breast MRI (both on an annual schedule). I had my routine MRI 4 months ago, no issues.
I had my routine mammo yesterday, and went about my day. I came home to a missed call from my doctor! No message left as my voicemail was full, are you kidding me!
I am panicked and stuck in time! Memories are flooding from 8 years prior, I really thought this was all over, I am so crazed because it is the weekend and there is nothing I can do but wait until Monday.
Sorry for the rant, my question is are MRI's more reliable, should I find comfort in those results? Or is the mammo just a different tool and just as good?????
I am so grateful for this website as you ladies understand. My husband just held me and told me everything is ok, don't let your mind get the better of you, sad to say I have heard those words before and slammed into a world I was not prepared for.
Any words of wisdom, experience is welcome!
Thank you ladies!
Nicole

My MO tells me that mammograms get about 80% of problems, and US/MRIs catch the rest. It seems you're being well-followed. I would trust an MRI over a mammo any day, personally, since I had 5 over 5 years that didn't catch the problem in my right breast. Some bc hides from mammos because of they way it grows, and that was my case.
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best one. It might have even been a mis-dial from a tech at your doctor's office. If it was important, I'd think they'd leave a message asking you to return their call, etc.
I hope all is well. I know the panic that you're feeling.

Thank you Claire! You reminded me that with my diagnosis, the mammo did not catch it as I had no baseline. I have dense breast, too so potentially this creates a callback on the mammo. The reason the doctor didn't leave a message is because my voicemail was full so she couldn't leave one.
My biggest lesson and to all my lady friends, get your test done on any day but Friday, this way you don't have to wait through a weekend.
thank you for the comfort of the MRI Claire, my rational mind hears you👍🏼

oh I understand that sickening panic sensation that sets in when anything doesn't look right. It is horrible.
