Red Face like Sunburn post chemo

Hi all, I am 9 days post 3rd chemo and I am having a sunburn typed face (cheeks, nose, chin and spots on bald head), not running a fever and don't feel bad expect my face swollen and on fire. Any tips to help me? Thank you!, Teri

    Contact your MO. That sounds uncomfortable. You may need an antihistamine, but you should call this in.

    Absolutely contact your doctor. I'm not saying it is from sun exposure, but....I see that you live in the south....hopefully you were advised that chemo can make you extremely sensitive to the sun.

    Thanks guys, I have not been in the sun at all so I will call my doctor again. It came out of nowhere :(

    Are you on steroids, such as dexamethasone, with your chemo? That can cause some redness and puffiness of the face. Or maybe it is an allergic response. Do call your doctor.

    Of course consulting the doctor is always recommended. Please allow me to add that I just finished 12 weeks of Taxol and Herceptin. My face was red from the first week and is still very bright red. It is also slightly swollen. After the first couple weeks, I developed a sensitive to the touch rash on my arms and legs. It would get slightly better towards the end of each treatment week then it would flare up again aday or two after the infusion The rash got progressively worse as the treatments went on. I also developed a bad case of folliculitis on my head. The rash, red face and and the folliculitis were attributed to the Taxol. I guess we will know in a couple weeks as I am off of the Taxol.

    My MO referred me to my dermatologist and I am on a second cream, this one a steroid cream to help calm down the rash. I have yet another lotion for my face. The folliculitis needed two rounds of an antibiotic.

    I don't see much on these boards about rashes or skin sensitivity. I hope your condition improves.

    THDailey, I had a red, hot splotchy face after every chemo treatment. Sometimes spread down my neck, too. Usually lasted for a day or two and then went away. I believe it was caused by the steroids. It was definitely a reaction to one of the drugs I was having infused. Mine was not a serious reaction but yours might be. See your doc is the best advice.
