The Best Christmas Morning Breakfast Ever
Great for Christmas Morning or Breakfast with Company
This is a French Toast that doesn't require slaving over the pan
9 x 13 glass pan
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
Makes enough for about 8 portions
Cut a long Bagette (French Bread or Italian bread) in ¾ inch to 1 inch slices and arrange in
the pan in 2 rows on top of each other, you can cut some in half and fill in any large voids
Combine in a bowl:
12 large eggs
1 cup of half and half
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
until all uniform in yellow color and pour over bread , press bread down into wetness to absorb liquid and place in refrigerator overnight (overnight is not mandatory but makes this taste better)
Combine these ingredients:
½ C brown sugar
2 Tablespoons softened butter (or margarine)
1 c of nuts ( I use ½ cup of slivered almonds and1/2 c of
pecan pieces)
½ tablespoon of Cinnamon
Mix thoroughly and sprinkle all over the wet bread in
morning
Then drizzle with a healthy amount of Karo Syrup ( light or dark)
Weave it back and forth and then up and down into a woven
pattern
Pop into a hot oven and bake for 40-45 minutes
till it puffs up
and is very brown
Serve with Syrup and Fresh Berry Mix
Fresh Berry Mix
is a box each of Blue berries, strawberries( cut up),
raspberries and black berries
I make a breakfast meat ( ham, sausage or bacon)sometimes to serve with the French Toast
I served this Breakfast at a Breast Cancer SleepOver Get Together I had in October and it was a big hit....Hope it becomes one of your family favorites
Happy Holidays !

Could I get general guestimate on how much a "healthy amount is? (for the french toast karo syrup)
-
I usually do a sausage, egg, bread thing for Christmas morning beacuse you can prepare it the night before - but this french oast sounds even better! I'd like a little more direction on the Karo syrup - how much should we use?
Thanks! Barb -
Thanks CatfromFL -- I had a recipe very close to yours and lost it. Tried to locate it on Internet but could never find one close to one i lost. But yours is nearly identical now that i see the ingredients.
it is delicious and sooooo easy to make. Thanks for posting it! -
So Sorry Ladies about the vagueness of the Karo syrup amount ......but I have never measured it. I pour it from a room temperature bottle in a thin bead and make a big tic-tac-toe with drizzled lines maybe 1/2 inch apart ...first going up and down.......then going back and forth.........so maybe 1/4 Cup to 1/2 Cup total. I don't think you can screw it up. The Karo syrup does make it taste great !

Cat--
I used challah bread and maple syrup and froze it. I put the topping in a freezer bag and froze it with it. I'm hoping I'm not wiped out from my chemo treatment this Friday but in case I am, breakfast is almost ready. All I will have to do is put it in the fridge on Christmas eve to defrost and sprinkle the topping on and bake it in the morning. I am just hoping it freezes well...I don't see why it shouldn't. I'll let you know! -
It sounds wonderful - I'm going to visit my parents and a couple of sisters for Christmas ... my Dad normally makes breakfast - but I'm hoping to convince them to try this for Christmas morning since it would be pretty easy... if we try it I'll definitely let you know what everyone thought about it. Yumm... I hope they agree to try it!

We had this for breakfast on christmas morning - there were 11 of us ... and everyone - and I do mean everyone really liked it. My dad wasn't too sure he'd like it so he had extra eggs on standby and was going to make some traditional breakfast if needed ... he really liked this ... I got 4-5 requests for the recipe....
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe Cat - it was definitely a hit - and I'll make it again ... I brought a piece of the leftovers home with me and had it for breakfast this morning - it's good cold too!!!
Thanks again ... and YUMMM!!!!
